So I did a bit of math. 2,174 seems like a lot right? Well, you have six base models, up to ten packages available on some of those models, eight colors available on some models...
Anyway, my math tells me that when you go buy a new Tacoma you have over 2,000 possible combinations at your disposal.
    And, it's Friday night. Discuss.

Fly in the ointment... not if you want M/T.

    That is all.

Oh, and leave your man bun/vegan comments at the door.

Its Friday night and you are calculating the number of possible Tacoma combinations? The discussion might be more fun regarding your lack of a life!! Haha, just kidding. I'm not doing much else except READING about the number of tacoma combinations. Equally as lame...

Now its even easier to see the same truck with 5 different shades of gray making up 50% of the color lineup.

Red, green, blue, white, gray, gray, gray, gray, "lunar" gray, black

You know me. Party animal! Actually just came in from building stuff in garage and was thinking about that special order thread haha. So I got me a beer and set out on a road to discovery. Do you know you have 960 possible combinations for an Offroad? Mind boggling.

Which combination(s) come with the rustless frame option?
Or is that option only available on Friday?

I needed a truck in a hurry, and the local Toyota dealership had one new Tacoma on the lot.

    I bought it...lol

It’s more or less how I buy trucks.

Back in July of 1997. I was working on a construction project that was way behind schedule and was working 7 days a week and 12 hour days starting in May.

My little regular cab S10 bit the dust, and since I had two children I wanted a Dakota- the only mid size truck at that time.

I called the local dealership during lunch and told them I needed an access cab/ 6 cylinder with MT.

I called back during dinner break, and the salesman told me he found one in Western Pennsylvania, the only options were posi rear and stainless steel exhaust- I bought it over the phone right there. “And by the way” he said “it’s green”.

That turned out to be a damn fine truck.

Hopefully the Taco will be as good/ better.

I had a green 1997 Dakota access cab MT as well. It was 4WD. I had less than a hundred miles and the clutch went out. I never had another problem and when I sold it at 132K miles I was pretty sad.
Mine had that lighter swoopy green stripe as it was a sport.

It's not a simple problem of counting permutations.

Toyota restrict the possibility of combinations.
Certain color can only be had with certain packages selected.
2000 seems way too many, my gut feeling's that there are less than 100 realistic production variations (not counting the port installed item permutations)

It would be nice if you could order a taco like a mini cooper, but i'm sure it would be 100k truck at that point

Based purely on the number of 3rd Gen Tacoma's I witnessed driving up and down our local highway this afternoon, I calculate that there are 308,642 variations offered by Toyota. Oh, and apparently they come in different colors.

Let me walk you through a bit of it...
There are six models from SR to Pro. The colors for each model range from 4 for the Pro to 8 for the mid models. Just totalling up the possible color combinations for each model is 40.
Packages range from 1 for the Pro to 10 for the Sport and offroad. You get two bed lengths for some models. You get two engines. You get 2WD or 4WD. You get different interiors. Hopefully you see that it is a bit more than 100 lol. Actually, if you choose the SR model, you get 94 combinations. If you choose the Pro, you get 8. If you choose the Offroad, you get 960 possible combinations.
