I used syncromax in the xfer case and had better results with the ravenol. Nothing but good things to say about that oil.

@jws6295 check your spark plugs too. Some are loose from the factory

Unless you have been in a lot of off road water. I would hold off on the fluid changes until 60,000. Sorry about your Cancer been there still doing that

I’ll only drop the pan depending on what my fluid looks like. If it smells burnt or is really ugly looking I’ll drop it clean the filter and go from there.

Good call on the on spark plugs! Didn’t even give that I thought. I’ve seen some people saying about it on here so I might just have to look into that too while I’m at it.

Yeah cancer is not fun! I’ve been shocked on how busy in the infusion rooms are and how many people are walking around with it. It’s crazy

Now is a good time to change the diff oils and the transfer case as they are nicely broken in. Use top end redline and do the diff breather mod and you can basically forget about it. Those synthetic fluids will easily last 100 000 miles if not much more.

I just ordered the redline! And got some fuel system cleaner too.. weather that does anything I don’t know but figured I’d sample it and go from there! I’ll look into the breather mod!

Not much to offer for advice about thread topic. But wanted to say sorry to hear about your medical issue. Never dealt with cancer myself but my older brother dealt with it a few years back and those chemo treatments are nothing that is easy to deal with. Glad to see you have a good attitude and great idea to take your mind off things and stay moving by doing some maintenance may not necessarily need to be done but gives piece of mind and keeps you from thinking about that crap. As someone only a year older than you I admire your outlook and keep it up. Beating it in your mind is a big part of it and I hope you keep making progress.

Thanks man!! That means a lot!! Chemo isn’t fun but from what I understand it’s came along way over the years! I work for my family in a small auto garage here in pa. So doing this kind of stuff makes me feel normal again! It’s just a good feeling! Just got a treatment yesterday so by next weekend I should be able to do this stuff pretty well I think! Again thank you for your kind words. They’re much appreciated!!

I think it isa good thing you are keeping your mind and body busy! Parts of my family has dealt with the cancer deal... keep up the the positivity! Let us know how the fluid changes and other work goes. Im about to do a 60k service myself. Manual transmission and using redline on diffs, transfer case and tyranny. Mobile 1 engine oil.

Sorry to hear about your family members! Hopefully they’re all in the clear now! And I will let everyone know for sure. Planning on posting pictures and everything! Good luck with your 60k service. Sounds like your using damn good fluids too! I also use Mobil1 engine oil. Have used it in my last 3 cars/trucks. From what I understand Toyota’s oil is rebranded Mobil1 as well.

I’ve done mine 3 times now. Unless you’ve driven in 4 high for a long period of time I wouldn’t do the front diff. It’s going to come out clean. Definitely do the rear tho.

I've got 414,000 trouble-free miles on my '96 and have never changed brake fluid, differentials, manual trans fluids. No issues or noise, everything fine. Have change my motor oil every 5,000 miles though.

I guess Toyota’s intervals for service are just false propaganda. Aka money making scam
I can only imagine what your differentials look like after 414,000 miles. Lol. Probably like peanut butter black sludge hahhahah. But bullet proof trucks from the 90s. Can’t kill em.

Perhaps, but it's quieter than my 2018 TRD Sport with 23,000 miles.

:rofl:True statement no doubt! These “new” differentials aren’t built like they used to. I miss the 80s and 90s Toyota build quality. They took lots of pride back then. Today is all about squeezing the most amount of money out of everyone while using the cheapest parts. O well, still love my truck regardless. Nice 96 by the way!!! Your pride of ownership truly shows.

Good to know you have some experience with it! I was hoping someone would! I’ve always just ran the Lucas stuff and saw this when I ordered my oil and said why not try it?! I’m pretty weird about keeping fuel systems clean especially with direct injection being a part of this engine.
