    Check out my sig...
Get the best of both worlds - newer Taco for DD and as tow rig and an older CJ/YJ or Samurai to beat on.

I think Sami's are way overpriced around here though. Guys asking $4-5k for stock non-efi ones.

well im a bit late in this thred but i had a 2000 cherokee that i sold to get my taco. the cherokee was a very sturdy and reliable truck. great for a first car. it wheeled ok but it had open diffs so it was easliy stuck in mud. it road a bit stiff but it felt like i was driving a tank. overall a decent truck that was easy and cheap to fix and was bomb proof. but the taco wins in my opinion

I think a Jeep and an FJ Cruiser would be a better comparison?

Had an 07 Rubicon with a 6" RE longarm and 37's. that thing was unstoppable and i kick myself everyday for selling it, but i needed a truck and jeep doesnt make a truck. so i got a Tacoma. dont get me wrong, i love the tacoma, but i had zero problems with my jeep and would prefer it offroad.

Had an 08 2 door rubicon that was ok for a while. Had it for about a year. Upgraded to 35" tires 3" lift and other mods. I have had a total of 3 jeeps this being my 3rd. Tj wrangler is much better than new ones. Built better! 08 was underpowered, hardtop leaked and dealer could never fix it. Auto tranny felt crappy when shifting into gear, paper thin sheet metal and too much plastic. Didnt see it lasting a long time so I traded it for my taco. Taco is just built with quality materials and feels much more dependable.

    So far I've had a 92 wrangler when I was 16, (97 Ranger, 99 Bravada) a 94 Toyota Pickup, 95 wrangler sahara, and another 94 toyota pickup.

Absolutely love wranglers, owned my dream Jeep, 95 Wrangler Sahara, Dark Green, Black wheels, BFG's thing looked awesome. But terrible gas mileage, and not great on the highway. Ran great, looked great but was starting to rust. Traded it for the 2nd 94 Pickup, week later frame broke. Lost a ton on that one, finally got frustrated and thats when I bought my 2006 Tacoma.

    Everytime I have a truck I miss the Jeep, everytime I have a Jeep I need a truck. Someday I'll have both...someday.

The 4.0 I-6 will go 300,000 miles easy, I hope I get that much out of my 2.7! Only thing with Jeeps...Just Emptied Every Pocket!

Just sold my 90 YJ much more capable than my taco. 4.2 liter straight 6 5 speed tranny 5 1/2" lift 35x12.5 hell of a vehicle but needed something more reliable

I had an '05 Wrangler before I got my taco. IMO the 4.0 straight six drivetrain is bulletproof. Hell, I still have a '97 Cherokee with the 4.0 that has 226,xxx miles on it. I really liked that Jeep it had the hardtop and softop both from the factory, 30x9.50 tire package which came with a standard Dana 44 rear. Some things I noticed about it, the hardtop was cold in the winter and hot in the summer-no insulation, but the factory softop was warmer/cooler and quieter. Weird, its usually the other way around, but the factory softops were sailcloth. It had plenty of wind noise, but your driving a square down the highway, so thats to be expected. I thought the ride was great, it was a stock TJ no lift, you can whip a u-turn like its nothing in them. Overall I was happy with it but I always was a pickup truck person, so I traded it in on a '06 Ranger x-cab 4x4 sport, wife got pregnant and I traded that right in for my '08 double cab 4x4 Taco. Honestly, I'll never look back. I'm the type of person that always bounced from car to car, but after having this truck for over 2 years now I have no desire to get rid of it. Its quick enough, its 4x4, its a 4 door for the family, it rides nice, its got a bed to haul shit. I couldn't ask for more. I intend on keeping my Taco until it dies or rusts to death-whichever occurs first. Although I will probably get another 4.0 TJ for a second car in the future.

My girlfriend has a 2008 4 door wrangler, 2 wheel drive. I took its virginity last night...took it on some muddy mountain trails.

I gotta say, I am much more impressed than I thought I was going to be. I was honestly worried at first because we had some MAJOR rain over the weekend... but the 4x2 jeep took it like a champ, no slippage at all it just kept moving with no issues

I have to agree with a lot of posts on here...you're not comparing apples to apples. I can't say anything bad about the Jeeps because my brother and a friend of mine both have Jeeps and their off roading performances were very impressive! However, the Jeeps are not comfortable if you are carrying more than two passengers (to include the driver) and they don't have the towing capabilities of the Tacoma. If you are looking for everyday driving....I'm not sure I can offer any advice on that as I have only owned a Tacoma but will say I am impressed with MPGs as I deal a lot with bumper2bumper traffic!

Dude, I own both. Both are great vehicles and both are very reliable regardless of what anyone else says. You have to ask yourself what do you want.

The Jeep is great because you have a lot of freedom to go with the top down, very capable of anything you throw at it off road. Its just awesome.

The Taco on the other hand is a vehicle with plenty of room and has space to haul stuff. The taco can handle a lot of off road stuff but nothing like the Jeep.

It will come down to a personal preference. Both are awesome though.

I've had three Jeeps that I bought new and drove for 125K+ miles through the SoCal and AZ deserts ('87 YJ, '90 TJ, '95TJ). Only problems I ever had were a wiper motor on the YJ and a tailgate lift cylinder on one of the TJ's. Not sure where you got your information, but it sure doesn't match my experience.

    my dad has owned a 85 4runner 22re with 3" lift on 31 a/t's
    and now has a 59 cj5, 2" lift, 33 m/ts, limited slip axles

the jeep seems to be a more capable overall rig, but i think if he would have regeared the toyota and put lockers and m/ts on it, it wouldnt have been bad either, the toyota is much better suited for the winter wheeling (jeep is a softtop, with no heater). I took the toyota out to knoxville ohv a few times and it did all right but had to be in 4l all the time cause it was so weak with stock gears and the 4cyl

what sucks is he wasnt really into wheeling at the time he bought the toyota, eventually i brought up how ridicilous it was for him to have a lifted rig and only use it for driving to tahoe, so the toyota and my moms accord got sold, and he bought an awd volvo wagon for moms dd and tahoe runs.

If you want a Jeep they get a redesign and all new engine and transmision next year for 2012. You want that Pentastar (or whatever they are calling it now) and not the minivan engine with the known to fail on a regualr basis transmision they have now. I was deciding between the Tacoma and Rubicon when I got my 2010 TRD Offroad. No question in my mind I made the right choice.

I just traded in this for my TACO

    08e6643f-1_98be3534cc88b1393f0d03a4e8198ea980166c88.jpg

I loved my Jeep while it lasted. I spent a lot of money putting a lift, tires , and modding the crap out of it...

Unfortenetly, I couldnt afford to keep it with everything that goes wrong with the thing. It seemed like every other month something would go wrong. They are cheaply made inside and out. The paint chips, fades and scratches easy, windshields break, hard top whistles loud at highway speeds, I broke my front axle going over a baby ditch at 30mph, Power steering pump went out, my throw out bearing went out, slave cylinder twice. The intieror of the jeep is cheap cheap cheap, everything breaks and snaps off, cheap plastic!

Even with 4.10 gears the Jeep had No POWER. It always felt like I was towing something. I know there not meant to go fast but damn, the thing sounds like its going to blow up on the highway at an incline, struggles just to get over 70mph.On the Jeep Forums, all heard was people complaining on how much owners were dissapointed in them. Lots of engines dying at only 50K. Trannies go out easy. seriously check out the JK-Froum. All everyone does is complain about their jeeps.

Im extreamly upset with the new Wranglers.

I will put my tacoma against a JK wrangler in any catagory and be 100% sure in beating it.

Rock crawling is its only advantage.

    Glad I got the TACO!
Its like a sports car to my old jeep.
Its got 4 door, a rear locker, more room, a truck bed, more hp and torque, towing capabilites, and IMO its just as good off road!

I dont recommend a JK Wrangler, I do respect it for getting me into the offroad world but man.

Now I understand the "jeep thing". Thats why I drive a YOTA!
