you ever see just how often someone with a locker and CC still get stuck? I bet you would do just fine with a better set of tires, less air in them and experience. Just my two cents. Only time I’ve seen CC come in handy was going down hill lol

 

Yeah, digging is the only thing that got me out. Tire pressures weren't going to help me where I was, but more traction probably could have. Either way crawl control and a locking diff beats no crawl control and an open diff

really? Like I said, experience is HUGE! And a good meaty tire. There is a reason you have a bunch of two wheel drive guys making a big stink when it comes to off-roading. No crawl control and no locking diff and they can still make it 80-90 percent of the places your truck has the capability of.

it always makes me laugh when people say they “need” 4wd for snow. There are a lot of people that can’t afford that second AWD/4WD vehicle for the winter and do just fine

CC is a gimmick. No two ways about it. Anyone telling you different is probably a Toyota salesman/saleswoman

 

Trust me, I know all about 2WD in winter. I drove a Mustang for several winters here. Having the option for 4WD is much preferable. And 80-90% isn't 100%. CC is another tool in your bag. No two ways about it. And yes, a good tire helps, but it also depends on your terrain. Mud tires are horrible in snow and ice while snow tires are horrible in mud. Those who say a locker or CC are garbage have never been in a situation to appreciate having it. Lots of 2WD vehicles (and lower level jeeps) getting rescued by Winder Towing in Utah.

When you've managed to high center on a snowbank and 1 of your 3 tires have enough traction to move you but isn't spinning, a locker comes in real handy. I don't really care what tires or pressures you have at that point.

 

lol, okay, man. I too have come from mustang (Cobras, foxbody’s), BMW (M3’s), Subaru (3.6 R, FRS, WRX), F250 (with 4WD). Fun variety of cars

 

All you need is good tires, low air in them, winch. Drive with drivers (group) is best. If go alone, you will have to wrap the tree with winch accessories and you can pull your truck out if you get stuck. If stuck in deep mud, good luck. That's why it is best if you go with the group and more trucks with winches to pull you out easy.

 

I hear ya, Ill never use rear locker so is not a big deal, 4x4 is more than enough!

 

I agree, the places i would take my 50k truck i dont need the locker. Its very capable as is. My buddy got the off road and i always joke with him. He got it almost 2 years ago and never used it once, but i use my scoop daily

 

Yes they are. I still miss that car, but my 4x4 is far more capable and practical.

 

Yes, that works well for wheeling. In the case I was referring to, I wasn't actually wheeling. I was trying to get into a driveway that hadn't been plowed yet, but the road had. But, that's why I had a shovel. No amount of airing down was going to help and no tires would have helped unless I had a lift. I was around trees though so a winch would have worked.

 

Sounds like someone is compensating for a lack of crawl control

lol, or I just don’t need it. If you really need crawl control to off-road, you may need to get someone who knows how to actually do it to teach you

I don't have it on mine and I don't need it. If I want it, then I would have gone to get OR instead. I have Sport.

 

oh come on!!! That is impossible!!! There has never been an off-roader in the history of automobiles that has not had crawl control. Please stop lying. You HAVE TO have it or you are not serious about your “off road”

Yeah, I didn't have that option. It was a family cabin and I wasn't sure how much snow was there until I got there.
