Hi, I have a 2020 TRD sport double cab in quicksand and I park on the street in my city, unfortunately someone clipped my rear right door handle and made a nasty scratch down to the primer. Would the best way to go about this be to buy a new quicksand handle somewhere? I’ve been reading repainting can get very expensive and I’m not sure what to do.

It's very sad others do more damage to property than you do yourself. My truck got her first parking lot wound, and I don't understand how people are so bad at driving and inconsiderate overall.

Then again, there are mistakes (fancy word for not paying attention and stupidity), however things are so expensive to repair and most people don't have the resources to correct "mistakes."

Okay, I'm done being negative. Happy Saturday TW

When I did the passenger door handle mod , my new smart handle was $150. I’m not sure how much the non smart handle is , but I’m sure it’s a little cheaper. Just for reference.

I would do touch up paint first since its cheaper and if your not satisfied with that you can always just buy a new handle.

Where could I buy a new handle? It isn't the smart handle so I assume it would be cheaper but I am not sure where to look

When I did the mod I followed this write up. The part numbers listed are for smart handles though. But it gets you in the right direction. I would ask the dealership for the part number and shop around online.

I ended up ordering my parts from

Something that small?? Touch up paint. I have WAYYYY bigger chips than that on my truck from just daily driving it. You are going to spend a small fortune if you fix every small chip like that with a repaint or new part

It’s your truck so if that chip upsets you enough to justify paying for a new handle go for it. Where you could get it I would start at the dealer. Like other have said I have chips much bigger than this and I just threw some touch up paint on you won’t be able to tell unless you were to stare directly at the area 5 ft away.

May not be as deep but this is touch up paint after the fact along with some boiling water for heat to pop the dent (unrelated)65EC7D5A-4333-4ABD-9C58-0962302108ED.jpg

I understand the OP though. BRAND new truck and this shit happens

OP, im glad it wasn't any worse but I'm with some of the other posts, start small (touch up) and wait a week to let it set in (mentally) and then if you aren't happy go from there.

Sorry to here about your bad luck but shit happens especially when you gotta park on the road, im sure you know

I appreciate all of your help and quick responses! I think I'll give the touch up paint a try and see what I think. Chances are I am overreacting but it is brand new and its my first new truck. I'll post the results here when I touch it up!

GL OP worse come to worse you buy the touch up paint don’t like it and buy a replacement handle and have the paint for the next time you may need it. Completely understand the not wanting to have a new truck with any damage. Bought mine new and nearly shit a brick when I did the damage posted above. Good luck!

Easy!!! Do multiple coats. And built it up a little So it is even with the original paint. Then take 2000 or so grit sand paper and sand a touch just to even it out (this should take just a couple seconds, you aren’t doing anything crazy) and then use a compound to clean it up. It’ll blend it really well, or should. I did this on my cobra after a neighbor backed into it

Top pic is my first cobra. Believe it or not, the front of the hood is a different color. Ford decided they would touch up paint flaws with the clear bra on. When I took the clear bra off, it was a different color underneath and there was an 1/8th inch of clear build up on the side of the clear bra. Used a razor blade on the clear (do not try this if you don’t know what I am talking about....blade is perpendicular to the paint) and polished it out. Look close and you can see the end of the hood is lighter. It’s not a reflection

second pic is my second cobra. There is a quarter size chunk of paint that fell off down to the clear on the passenger side part of the hood. Just like on the white and blue Tacoma’s. Filled it with touch up paint, sanded it, and buffed it out.

all of this to say is that it won’t be seen by anyone else. Don’t get me wrong, it SUCKS, but sadly, you’ll get more. All about perspective.

cant wait to see your work, OP!!
