i can only speculate but, maybe magnuson didnt want kit competition. Why would he try to compete when he can develop a different kit to appeal to others.

if he is providing the software (looked very familar in one of the videos) then he has to be getting a cut of the sale.

CARB is definitely appealing to many people out there, but it's also time consuming and expensive. OVTune isn't a big company. Mat himself said towards the beginning of the FI development that he wasn't going after CARB certification for the rotrex kits or the turbos and that it would only be a consideration if there was enough interest to make it worth it. And then obviously he eventually abandoned the rotrex kit development. Maybe the level of interest has changed his mind about CARB certification for the turbos but if so, he hasn't said anything about that. :notsure:

I certainly don't blame anyone, you included, who chooses the Maggy kit because of the eventual CARB certification. You do what you feel you need to do. :notsure: I have the luxury of having left CA and don't need to worry about their ridiculousness.

Competition and Price and the fact that snails truly are a better solution - which I agree with - but for some (and many more to come with changes on the horizon for emission requirements and testing) the best solution includes CARB.

The unit he had was a rotrex which is the same thing URD is using for their offering.

no one else is doing turbos, so that’s the where he decided to focus

i do prefer the packaging and simplicity of the SC compared to the TTC and if psi to psi they are close interms of power delivery (at such a low PSI its hard to argue which is "better")

max PSI for the charger is 36 so it has alot more headroom compared to the base kit turbos which from what i understand are limited to 16psi, powermax are another story.

Either way, there's that fuel wall to keep in mind. Need fueling upgrades to pass it, regardless of supercharger or turbos

Also, here's a quote from Mat just last night. Just a piece of his entire comment, but it's the last page of the twin turbo thread, not hard to find if you want to read the whole thing. Reason I'm sharing it is just to address your comment about comparing psi to psi

Also remember boost psi does not equal power. Turbos have no parasitic loss either. So 7-8 psi on our system isn't comparable to 7-8 on a SC.

agreed there are draw backs to both systems. Im looking at it for which system fits my needs (personally) Power, Packaging, Amount of moving parts (predicted reliability) are my main focuses and to be honest Power if its 30% increase vs 35% at the same boost doesnt weigh as heavily as the other elements of the kit.

matts TT system fits other needs/wants better it just doesnt appeal to me

Where'd the max of 36 psi come from for the TVS? Feel like that's so engine dependent we wouldn't know it for the 3.5.

    I hear you.

I went with the turbos. At the time, it was looking like the turbos would release first and I trust Mat's tuning more than I trusted Magnuson since also at the time, they'd no way to tune the supercharger and even now, they're still new to using vF. I hope that they use 2.0 maps as a baseline to still provide customers with the benefits of Mat's years of R&D, especially where shift logic is concerned for the AT guys.

For me, the torque super low in the RPM band got me onboard for the turbos too.

Lastly, I just love turbos. Always have. :notsure:

agreed part of my decision is if i want to work on any part of the system all i need is to pop the hood on the SC. i dont want to work through the wheel wells or under the truck. (im getting older)

You are the one that said a taco couldnt keep up with a 396 SS. I was just pointing out that that 396 isnt really fast at all.

I'm not sure why you keep pushing carb so hard. Aren't you my neighbor lol? We have no reason for carb in Colorado. Literally all they do for a 4x4 emissions in Colorado is check for a light and idle the truck for like 30 secs into a sniffer.
In fact you might even be able to pass on one if the little on ramp testers they have set up all over the place now and not even have to take the truck in.

Fuck that video is cringey. The Dyno towards the end starts at ~14 mins I believe.

Realistically the numbers magnuson is putting out are right in line with the rest of the Toyota applications. I'm sure this huge s/c has a lot more to offer and in time people will find the limits but for an initial release it's right in line with what I would have expected.

If memory serves me correct, the lotus 2GR engines with the TVS1900 produce a bout 500hp at 12 PSI.

Sorry, not supercharger related, but I noticed TacomaBeast's truck have are running OEM copycat LED headlights. Are they the unlisted AlphaRex or DEPO replacements?

That's a little annoying that they use our software while clearly advertising HP Tuners.
