I got mine and installed. Just went a way lazier route than OP.

All I did was use degreaser and wiped it off then slapped them on. Went on fine and look good. My only advice is to not do it when it’s cold out. Wait for a nice day if possible.

Remember to mount both front and rear, forward enough to protect from entry/exit wear. First get in at all 4 entries, then mark where shoe/boot hits the sill on exit and entry. Mount protectors an inch or two forward from the mark. Remember sill scars don't happen on rear 2/3's of the placement.

They will be beneficial as the rust starts further inward at the pinch weld.

Quicksand with hood protector, color matching decals on tailgate latch, mudflaps, glovebox, and tailgate hitch cover.
I can also suggest that you get the color inserts for the TACOMA lettering in the sill protectors, as well as the Toyota LOGO for the rear protectors. You can order the color inserts to match the exterior, and they really do make the door sills "pop"! Here is a link on Ebay. Installing these decal color inserts was one of the first things I did the day after I got my truck! Here is a link to the site on ebay where you can get them:

Mine came with these and the all weather Matts already installed. Thought the protectors were standard...

I went a different route and ordered from a member on here - G-Tek Fab. Brand new truck and no scratches on the sill plates yet so protecting them from the start. Put them on today and they are GREAT. Diamond pattern, heavy powder coating, and aluminum instead of plastic or a decal. Cost more but super nice and money well spent for the better protection. Great guy to deal with too.

How do these fit? I’m afraid of there being space between the protector and the door seal allowing moisture to get stuck in between and possibly causing issues there. With that 3m seal tape he uses it seems it would sit a little high. Would love if you could provide pictures.

The new door sill protectors are slightly different to the 2016-2019 versions but should work just fine on older 3rd gens...

Looks like the 2020 protector is longer and even extends up the rear curves? I'd like to swap mine out if that's the case and get a little more protection. Anyone have pics of the 2020 versions installed, specifically the rear? I'd like to see how far they extend to the rear.

@THE_KiRRAx @Chargerguy They extend up the front not back... you could however fit them in reverse if you like...

How has your rust fix held up? Currently having the same issue on at least one of my doors.
