    2.8 makes power.

I run a 2.7 because I like to experiment. The results have been near the same or marginal in improvement, but regardless I can tell it pulls with good power without any sort of power loss so I've just stuck with it and called it good.

I think my boost sensor is starting to stick because I am seeing wonky idle numbers sometimes and one time I saw a boost pressure of like 9.x or something outside the norm and all circumstances have been unchanged.

Your Y definitely sounds like your issue. I am running a modified Y with a larger collector and "special" cats and am seeing a max of 7.5 psi with the 2.7 pulley at WOT. 6.5 psi with the 2.8.

Regardless, if you don't plan on running water/meth injection then stick with a 2.7 or 2.8 and work on opening up that exhaust more.

All elevations. If you have not opened up your exhaust headers all the way back you will be quite pleased with the results. I wouldn’t use water/meth unless you have at least about 8 lbs boost to work with the controller.

That's what Kiel said. The same was said about the factory cams vs retarding them but the gears showed more power throughout the rpm range in the datalogs. I've sent a before and after to Justin. Waiting to here what he has to say. Hit 366 g/s of air after install around 5600rpm and before I was usually 350s at that rpm. These maf numbers aren't 100% accurate as my maf tables need some tweaking still but they are close.

I’m at 362 g/s. At 6500 Rpms. Think you gotta up that rev limiter lol

There's a lot to go through here, but on first glance I can see that the torque table will need some tweaking meaning the truck is clearly making a bit more torque. The odd part though is that airflow per revoltuion is down. You guys might not be very familiar with the g/rev unit of measure. It's a unit of measured that is used in some areas in the calibration, but that's not really the point.

    -3deg exhaust cam timing
    after.jpg

I'm going to have to dig into this further for more analysis. I'll post some follow ups after discussing with Kelby.

I got mine set at 6200 rpm. 5600 was the highest I could go with the limits of the curvy roads

I thought we didn’t want to raise our rev limit on these trucks

That's interesting. I have the retard gears in there as well, and I'm very happy with my 2500-4000rpm torque.

Yah I can tell my exhaust is def holding me back. those “special” cats made it through smog eh? I’ve been holding off on exhaust for a JFR setup but I’m on the edge of doing something like this to open up the Y and cat back section. Header as we know is not easy to mess with

Same here. I held off on getting the new cams mainly as there was chatter they wouldn’t play nice. Had the order ready too.

also don’t have much to compare as I did it all in one go but it feels the best in that range. I’d like a little more low end.

I know you guys think I'm nuts for running a 1.87" pulley, but I'm pretty happy with it right now after the camshaft and header installation. Boost dropped 2psi and my belt slip is WAY less. Been driving a lot and went on a crazy cruise after a car meet on the weekend... we're talking extremely spirited driving, felt as good as being on the road course here at the local track. The convoy was a bunch of small turbo cars and a '86 jaggy with a 350 swap. And me... and I kept up respectably.

Of interesting note, the stock gears keyway does a little bit of retarding on its own from wear. Maybe half a degree worth? Every used set I've seen has this. This particular gear only has about 9k on it. Sets with 200+k have about the same amount of wear for what it's worth. Call it initial break in wear.

My special cats were done after smog but will pass fine this next time no problem and I know that. :D The exhaust as a whole on these trucks are more of a bottleneck than the intake and the same goes for the turd gens. They were never designed to see power levels past 250HP and it shows.

I'd really love a JFR Y, but for now what I have gets the job done decently.

I wonder if that's where the "extra kick in power" after 10K comes from after the initial "break in." Hmm... very interesting!

Makes sense we’re both on the list. It’s one of those when the time comes but in the meantime she needs to breath. Any tips on opening up the Y now interested. Or any tips for those cats. I’m due for my first smog in a Couple months

Expand the tubing as much as possible and have them merge into a 2.5 y or a 3 depending what size your current exhaust is. More incoming.

More still to come. I installed a set of cam gears today on a truck. N/A setup with just an intake and headers.

You'll see why Kelby's gears are so popular! The truck had noticeable improvement in power pretty much across the board with a good bit more midrange punch. Anyhow. The results shown below are "typical" for cam gears being installed. The interesting thing I noticed with the addition of the gears was the intake resonance was much more pronounced after installing the cam gears. Anyhow.. The point of this post is to show what I typically see with regards to the effects on the g/rev after adding Kelby's retarded gears. Tune remained the same for these runs to keep things consistent.
