Hi- foolishly lazy question here:anonymous: , did anyone complete this installation on a 2020 without first disconnecting the battery?
I’ve read that disconnecting the battery could require you to manually recalibrate the windows and sunroof afterwards.

No need to unplug the battery, i did it on my 17 w the ignition off. But if you feel you want to, there is no issue doing that step. This is the only plug in the cab you connect.

And, Yes, you'll have to manually reset the features on windows and sliding roof.

Thanks for the information. So, you really think I would definitely blow a fuse just by disconnecting and reconnecting that one single connection?

Gotcha- Thanks for the clarification. Guess I’d better disconnect the battery.

The resetting of the sliding roof and windows is in the owner's manual...

For those who did this with the oem kit on my 2020 there is no harness to tie to on the passenger side of the frame. The brake lines and harness they reference in the install manual are on the driver's side. Did you guys just wire tie to holes in the frame?

Without the inverter harness going to the bed outlet there is no harness running on the passenger side...

Yeah no kidding, that's why I said there was no harness. I ended up just strapping to any holes available, routing through the frame and hoping for the best.

Does anyone know if Toyota sells standard tie mounts for their standard hole knockouts for getting a couple extra ties in?

There must be some way to source something like that but it’s probably a tricky one. Your best bet might be to cozy up at your dealership if you have a decent one nearby. I’d assume they have all manner of plastic fasteners in bulk and no real cost accounting on stuff like that but maybe I’m wrong.

I recently bought a Honda OEM trailer harness kit and it came with replacement snap in plastic connectors for the run along the rear bumper and instructions to cut and replace vs zip tie to existing. I assume the OEM tailgate kit just needs a few of those and alternate instructions for 2020+ on where to run the harness without something to follow.

Also, I’ve written about this before, I believe the manufacturer of the harness reversed the connectors at the tailgate. I swapped mine and was able to mount the vehicle side to the plastic tab where the camera connector is located so they are side by side. This change allows both tailgate side female plugs to be quickly disconnected for tailgate removal. Otherwise you would have to cut the zip tie each time you want the tailgate removed, a minor inconvenience at best but still an imperfection.

I don’t think this was posted, but here’s the video I followed...

    https://youtu.be/Ejq_Y6OjakE

Crazy to think the dealer wanted $600 to install. It’s much easier than I anticipated, just took about an hour. Oh and I also bought it from Bam.

Thanks for the video. He didn’t disconnect/ reconnect his battery in the video. Did you disconnect battery when you installed the lock kit on your Pro?
    Just ordered from BAM.

I did not disconnect it and I had no issues. If else is wondering it also works with the factory bed lights for a 2020 Tacoma.

May have missed the answer. Is the tailgate kit compatible with ‘17?

In case anyone needs an excuse to buy a new tool, I found that these cut through the metal zip ties at any angle like hot butter. 6A6EB168-9C20-4E43-84E5-B95F7AAF41FC.jpg
