You didn’t pay the taxes based on your license?

 

As I understand from the 'old days' you pay the local tax and then the CA DMV does the math and charges you for the balance of the TAX due for your location of registration... Does anyone know if this different now?

I think that if you run into a competent dealer, they will do the math themselves and charge you the correct amount... but it depends...

 

When I picked mine up out of state in June the dealer did all my taxes and registration for Cali based on my zip code

This is what I’ve always experienced and understood the rules as. Tax is calculated based on your registering zip code.

 

I'm considering purchasing out of state also (Living in Southern Cali). What state did you purchase from?

 

I got my 2020 SR5 blackout 4x4 with tonneau cover, side rails and black wheels for just over 36k. I’m positive a better deal existed somewhere, but I was tired of haggling with 5 different dealerships over 4 states and went with the one that had what I liked.

2019’s were really hard to find and I was tired of waiting. Hope that gives you a little help.

sometimes I wish I live in a state where there is no sales tax... that shit adds up $2k to $3k... I hate giving my money to the government so they piss it away on other BS.

It's not like you don't end up paying it one way or another. Usually if there is no sales tax that means you pay higher income tax, property tax, etc. or some combination thereof. The state has to get their money to pay for stuff somehow!

 

Unless you live in Cali, where you get taxed up ying yang from all ends multiple times.

 

I live in NJ... Number 1 in property tax!
