never run the vin to actually check but it is a 5VZ (just ran it and it is according to Toyota)

there's definitely some funkyness that other people don't have. for example I have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack the engine up to get the front clamshell in and out. Multiple people told me that was wrong so they came over to help and looked at it before deciding I was correct.

    why do you ask?

It has manual hubs and it doesn't seem to have any badging or anything denoting a trim level. I wasn't aware of any manual hub V6s but weird shit occurs sometimes with Toyota. I need some 96 model year manual v6 pics of the engine and computer area. I have mine obviously but I need to see if there are any differences. With all my newfound free time I'm getting organized to make prebuilt swap harnesses for going to an aftermarket ECU since we are unsupported from any major companies.

it is an LX according to toyota

it's been repainted a few times and I'm assuming they just never put decals back on

"LX PACKAGE INCLUDES Factory PX METALLIC PAINT
Factory RE 48 STATE EMISSIONS REQUIREMENT"

Hmm, sounds like mine then. Mines pretty basic. AC and a V6 are pretty much the only features. Need to find an SR5 from 96-97 I think to make sure I reach all the features.

Yeah, the older style double slider instead of the single slider the 01-04 had

I did just that with my tacoma, my buddy did that with his 4 runner, plus I've seen it elsewhere before

Maybe they were referring to 3rz trucks?

My 99 is an SR5 manual hub V6 MT. No TRD package. No power mirrors.

I've taken a couple v6 diffs out with no issues on the trail. I think it's technique as much as anything. Also saggy motor mounts might play a role

Too bad it's a 99 though, the 98-00 have no support either for aftermarket computers but I can never find anyone who owns one anyway. It wasn't meant to be

Yeah my motor mounts are shot on the 99 and it was extremely tight maneuvering the diff in and out.

I’ve heard the trail gear bomb proof motor mounts make your engine sit lower so I might have some issues when I install them.

I think that's a misconception because of how tough the fit is. When I had the bomb proofs my engine was up at least a .5" afterward. Their design makes them cake to shim up or down though

Well today I woke up early, had a coffee, and got ready to sit down for class. I even opened the zoom call waiting for it to begin.

After sitting there for a few minutes I realized I don't have class until Tuesday.

Was going to say they're original and had seen a few things they shouldn't have

When I took the diff out the stud was scraping the frame rail and against the oil pan while tilted as far down as I could get it

It's funny because Toyota calls my truck an SR5 on TIS and the owner's database, but it's definitely not an SR5. It was the poverty spec PreRunner (till I ruined it). They do make PreRunner SR5 badges, but I just had the standard PreRunner badge. My year has the uber rare Carbon Fiber badges, and I think it was pre-TRD because the badges on the C pillars say "Toyota Motorsports" in Carbon Fiber. I had Gunny at Camelback check, and these badges only came on 1998 PreRunners and nothing else.
