4 time water pump change still Leaky??

Ok guys i am about to push my 89 toyota 4cy off a cliff. I noticed that i was overheating. So i checked all fluids and hoses. fluid low but hose's ok so i replaced thermostate and refilled. Still over heats so i flush radiator and refill. Still overheats. Next i look and notice the water pump is leaking. I pulled off old one and replaced with a remanufactured pump from napa with just gasket. Still leaks so i pull and clean then go with just liqud gasket and put it back together for it to leak instantly. So i pulled and cleaned and then got another gasket and put liquid gasket and the paper gasket on.Wow its not leaking, it last for about a month then i notice i am leaking again. This time it leaks the min i put fluid in it with out it even running. So any ideas? could the radiator be over pressurising the seal around the pumnp and blowing it out? Thanks for any help

 

Just a heads up, but I once had just a single grain of sand responsible for a pretty serious oil gasket leak. I would seal fine until it got to operating temperature then it would just pour out oil.

does your engine have a bypass for the coolant circulation? can't remember the actual name for it. but maybe yours is broken? (If you have one)

 

No its not the shaft or the hole that lets u know the pump is bad. It is where the pump and block meet. Yes its the 22re

not sure about the bypass but i have cleaned both parts till they look better than factory.

 

Are you making sure you tighten the bolts evenly and to the right torque?

ok so i think 4th time is the charm. I pulled and cleaned and replaced pump for the 4th time and doesnt seem to be leaking but i dont think the -10 weather is helping me out at all. So i will find out later this wk if i got it. Also i think the Radiator is creating a back pressure so i left the lid cracked to see if that helps. Any other ideas?

 

The cooling system is designed to work under pressure (12 PSI I think). If you leave the radiator cap loose the system will not work properly, especially if it's as cold as you say it is.

 

yea i understand that it is supposed to have pressure but i thought that it might be creating too much pressure cause something was blocking the flow. But after two days of curring and no fluid i filled it and let it bubble out all the air and it seems to be doing fine but i only drove it for a few mins as it was -10 with out wind chill last night. I will find out today when i drive it. Thanks guys for all the help
