Why not just get a used truck and sell it when prices level out?

Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.

If you've got family with a spare vehicle I'd take them up on it. The insanity of the new and used vehicle market just can't last.

Because the used market is inflated also. Haven't you seen the Carvana threads about people selling their 2 year old truck with 20k miles on it and ALMOST getting what they paid for it new? That's some slow depreciation.

I had the exact same problem and just "ordered" a 2021. If you are able to go without a vehicle for that long. I was give about a 2 month time. That being said my Carvana experience was also a good one.

Unfortunately it will last as long as people keep shelling out that much money for a mid size truck.

I feel you. Must be a pain right now dealing with dealers .

I will say this, expect to pay over $40K+ for a TRD (Sport or OR) tech packages. I got the deal of a life time back in Nov (19). Paid $43K OTD for my TRD Sport 4X4 DCLB tech package - cement. This was 1 of 2 Tacoma‘s within 200 mile radius in So Cal. Mind you- this was all before Covid . I’ve heard you are pretty much at dealers mercy right now when it comes to specifics on trim levels. Good luck

I hear ya on the prices. Here in CA, used 2018 TRD sports are for sale for 50k. No joke. It’s insane right now. The bubble will bust on these stupid crazy prices but who knows when. I hope it all works out for you.

For what its worth, I am not exactly sure how far away you are from Knoxville, but I ran into quite a few ORs while looking for my sport. Also, the dealer I used to get a 2021 was way cheaper then anything around me.

If you make move to So Cal- I have a dealer that will go above and beyond to get you into a Toyota! Best experience ever , personally bought 2 Tacoma’s (13/2020) and now my wife’s 2020 Rav JBL premium package. I send all my family and friends to this dealer- specifically the sales manager.

It seems odd that they gave you a "price" on a truck they didn't actually have to sell. Seems like a weird bait and switch.

I paid $32k for my 2020 SR V6 4x4 about 2 weeks ago in Central Florida. That's what I was looking for. Other dealerships were pushing TRD models on me and I refused, because I don't want/need any of the fancy techy stuff, and the SR is the perfect truck to customize from the ground up. The dealership I bought my truck from found the exact truck I wanted and had it delivered in 72 hours.

    Good luck with your search!

So shop around and do by from the big box stores? No one is saying go out and by 2017 with 65k on it for $28k.

Get a truck to get you through this. The higher milage 2nd gen trucks are still reasonably priced.

Normally, I wouldn't. Just 6-7 weeks ago my dealer was selling 4x4 TRD OR with Duractracs for 36.5K... I called them out on it and they are quick to admit that the supply is low and demand is high and unfortunately for the customer, the owner is not allowing any discounts.

If there was a guarantee that 21's were going to sell for normal prices I would borrow a vehicle and wait... however it doesn't appear that the demand is slowing down. I mean, used Tacomas on the dealer lots around here are like 2017 w/40k miles have prices of 37k... it's ridiculous! My dealership has a 19 Tundra limited in Cement (my favorite color) 2wd but leather, 5.7 v8, and all the goodies with 12k miles for 42.5K before tax.. I told my salesman this morning I was not paying 40K or more for a Tacoma and told him I was interested in the Tundra what could he do on it. That if he could get me into that used Tacoma for 41k otd I'd sign a check right then... he said they are not budging on the used car prices whereas he can work with me and knock 2k off MSRP on new models in stock, they couldn't budge on the used Tundra. When I told him that I could buy a 2020 4wd chevy v8 1500 crew cab or f150 5.0 v8 crew cab for less than 40k out the door, he just agreed that the pricing on Tacomas is dumb and that he actually has a Tundra on order because he refuses to pay that much for a midsize v6.

I agreed. Go with a different full size.

I'd also argue if you really need a full size, then mph is going to be irrelevant. Otherwise get a used high milage full size to just do whatever tasks you need occasionally, then go back to the mid size for daily.

I tried man. When I first started thinking of selling my Forester it was only because I need a truck. I originally wanted to buy an old school square body chevy w/350, something fun to cruise around in and easy and cheap to work on and parts are plentiful and cheap. I couldn't find one without rust, or shadetree mechanic work for under 19k. Then I searched for a 1st gen tundra on marketplace for the last 2 days with around 140k miles or less that was in good, clean condition. I found 1 with 120k miles that looked great and has that bomb proof 4.7 v8. The interior was clean and it was perfect, I could pay cash and not have a carpayment. WhenI messaged the seller, he replied that its currently not for sale. I told him I had cash in hand and was looking to buy today or tomorrow to let me know if he changed his mind I would give him his full 11k asking price.. he went silent.

I found a second 06 Tundra, clean title, appeared clean, nice paint and interior it had 108k miles, and the guy wanted 14k... great can still pay cash and not have a car payment. I messaged him to supply a carfax, he emailed it and it showed 2 accidents. 1 minor accident( could be dent or something light) and the second accident showed the impact zone as the passenger door area and carfax reported Structural damage as a result. I also did a quick VIN lookup and saw it last sold this year to him for $8900. If he's a flipper that is fine, its shitty but whatever... but I need reliability over everything else and I cant risk buying a car that had an accident which caused "structural damage" which carfax defines as damage that would impair the structural integrity and safety of a vehicle.

I appreciate all the help guys and its nice to vent all this frustration.. but I feel like I have tried everything.

Also, the only reason I havent considered going back to a 2nd gen Tacoma is because I sold my 2015 DCSB TRD OR w/140kish miles for 18k in May of 2019 and even Carvana and some dealers are selling those for 25-27k w/higher mileage... I would literally hate myself if I paid 10k over what I sold mine for.

Ive got family who will loan me 1 of their extra vehicles so I can wait, I just hate asking for favors and borrowing stuff. I dont want to feel responsible if someone side swipes or rear ends me while driving another person vehicle.

2020 has to go down in the books as the most F'd up year or at least top 5.

Yeah, my local Chevy is selling the 1500 custom crew cab V8 for 37k plus tax, etc... the v6 is only 31k, but Ive heard too many horror stories on the ecoboost motors.

Hey man, do you mind explaining how you went about "ordering" your truck... If your more comfortable in PM thats cool. I literally tried this at the dealer and told them I wanted to order a 21 TRD OR 4x4 , Automatic, LED headlights and Fog lights, and maybe tech Package... The salesman basically said in so many words that I couldnt and I feel sure I was fed a bunch of crap because hes wanting to move the 2020.
