When do the invoices become available... Should they have access to the 2021 invoices yet?

If they can pull a Vin number and it has been shipped to them, then they should have access to the invoices.

Here’s one that I was shown. Ignore and subtract the stupid Southeast Toyota $1100 administrative fee. This was supposed to be for a Costco price. I just laughed at them when they tacked on $1100 for no reason and acted like it was normal. So that being said I’m not exactly sure that this is right but it seems about right to me.

When I was looking at ordering a 2021 my dealer said he didn’t have Costco pricing yet but said they were going to continue working with them and when it came time to purchase it would apply to whatever their current pricing was. I know that doesn’t really answer the question but it was a good enough answer for me based on the 2020 pricing. Ended up finding me a 2020 that fit the bill instead so I jumped on that. Deposit was 100% refundable so I knew I could back out if the pricing wasn’t to my liking.

That's super helpful, man! So I should be looking for about a $3k discount off of MSRP it sounds like. That admin fee they added there is cringe worthy! Should have told them you have a "customer appreciation fee" that is -$1,100 that needed to be added into the transaction.

Whenever they get back to me I'll try to remember to post the details.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a you got yourself a solid deal! Did you have to smog the taco and pay the taxes once you brought it back to Cali?

I'm also looking for a specific config on the truck I want that I guess this region (Cali) doesn't provide. I'm looking for a fully loaded TRD OR DCLB in a 4x2. For whatever reason the long bed only comes in 4x4 vs the short bed has both 4x4 and 4x2 options. I have time to play with as I may be in the market for my first home purchase with my wife in the next 6 months so I may have to wait longer then I expected to scoop my taco up. How did you finalize the deal with that dealership, was it all via email/phone?

Congrats on your truck by the way!

Im in CT. I got my AG 2020 Pro last November. 45.5k. I’d recommend looking in the North CT/MA/NH area. Worth the trip

It's so hard to compare deals... first, you have to understand exactly the trim and spec of the truck. Then factor in options, discounts, trade-in, tax, title and fees. If everything isn't exactly level and consistent, you're just comparing apples to oranges and probably getting upset. I've bought a lot of new cars and the way I do it now is to calculate my realistic OTD price target before beginning a negotiation. If I can get it below that price then I sign on the bottom line. IMO, if you don't do it that way, by the time they're done subtracting destination to make the price sound good, then adding it back in, calculating a trade-in, plus fees ($500 in MD), taxes and $700 fabric protector that you don't want!!!... you'll actually have no idea what the vehicle is actually costing - until you get to the OTD price. I don't care what the components of that price are, just that the total OTD is below my target.

Somewhat true. I would more so consider the comparison apples from one grocery store to apples from another. The info provided throughout this thread gives buyers a WAY better idea of what is possible and if they were to just walk in there blind. If the template provided is used then you’re not really missing any of the details pertinent for comparison’s sake.

I am following another post's advice and emailed 83 dealers across my state and a neighboring state asking for pricing for a 2021 OR and 2021 PRO. So far most have come back with the Toyota website MSRP. I've had some ask me what I'm looking for (despite my initial email specifying exact trim/color/packages). My best offer for the OR is still the Fleet manager ($41800 - 2021 Tacoma TRD OR, 4WD, 3.5L V6 Engine, 6-Speed Automatic Transmission Double Cab, 5-ft. Bed, Premium Off-Road/Advanced Tech/LED lights packages). Asking for a further price down, hopefully getting it tomorrow.

However I did get this from a dealer that's 2 hours away... making me consider the pro now  . Also asked this dealer for their OR price breakdown after seeing their Pro

Do you mind if I ask what dealer and where? I was searching for a 2020 - same package earlier this year, then COVID hit and prices went up and I've been waiting since. I had a dealer reach out to me a few days ago stating he was getting a 21' in with the color and same package but wants MSRP - $44,992 and I would have to travel 600 miles. If I can find a 21 for around 40k, I'd jump on it. He said he'd have it by the end of the month.

Invoice is still over what the dealer pays for it, they won't tell you that. But, with crazy high pricing there may not be much room for negotiation. Plus, dealers will include the Toyota cash back incentives in their discounted pricing, so ask for their price without any incentives.
