Added grille badge @Tacovinyl . Decided drilling holes was the cleanest look for the 2020 Trd grille.

 

Installed the OEM Tacoma Pro skid plate.

 

I just watched the ZacksJerryRig YT video a couple days ago where he installed a Prinsu on his Tacoma and he had the same concerns about that front part basically touching the roof. It seems to be designed that way though since they even include that foam/rubber/whatever protector gasket on the bottom side. I'd think there would be more outcry and not so many people recommending it as one of the most popular options if it was rubbing paint off people roofs, right? Make me wonder...

 

Anyone remember the Prinsu/UptopOverland like roof rack that was introduced here about a month ago? It was a startup by two guys. Looked interesting but I can't find that post here and I havent seen or heard any more about it.
Would appreciate any info or a link if anyone has one.

 

Roof contact was and is my main concern and is what has kept me from pulling the trigger. Sticking with my concern. I'm convinced that any contact with the paint will cause abrasion over time.

 

When time comes to purchase one I'll look at one's that offer the option of larger gap or some adjustments. I live in Canada and winter time the roads are spattered with gravel and sand. All it takes is for a rock to get jammed in there and eat away at the paint, but that's just my thoughts...

I have a Prinsu and I live in Alberta. Mine touches the roof but I have xpel protection underneath so no paint rub.

 

What the heck did you take to the dump? I really hope there was a trailer involved...

Thanks for sharing that. I am looking for a roof rack and am really stuck with my decision. On the one hand, tons of people run the Prinsu racks and report no problems so there must be some value to them. On the other hand, it seems like a terribly engineered solution that could be thought through better. For example, if yours touches the roof why should you have to buy a separate product to protect the underneath -- seems like that should have been thought out better in the product design.

Now keep in mind, I have no idea what I am talking about because I am in NY and we are not the epicenter of all things off road. I've been researching but really want to see the rack up close and in person to get a better sense. My comments are about the product design from what I have been able to see on my computer -- which to be fair is limited.

 

I have way too much xpel on my truck. Had for years before the Prinsu. I have zero complaints about the Prinsu. Rock solid! I have 6 Baja S2 lights attached and two 100 watt solar panels.
