Help: I upgraded my speakers but rear speakers are still quiet!

I upgraded all my speakers to alpine type R speakers, and I can’t help but notice that the rear speakers are so much more quiet than the front speakers. The stock speakers on the Tacoma were also quiet though so I know it wasn’t the installation.

Does anyone know if adding an amp will fix this? Or should I add a Line Out Converter to an amp? Or is it cheaper to just replace my head unit and not add an amp?

Any help on car system audio is appreciated.

 

The head unit has very limited power to the rear speakers. I went through the same thing. You would benefit greatly from an amp. I used the kicker key 180 with DSP and it is amazing. Read about it here

I mounted it under the passenger seat to have access to dip switches and gain controls and to be able to plug the microphone in easily for tuning. I will look for the thread on making the harness.

Is the Mic for calibration/set up only? Or do you leave it plugged in for constant tuning depending on what you’re playing?

 

It’s for the initial setup/tuning. However, I found that mic placement makes a big difference in soundstage. I ended up doing it about 3 times but messed with the gains quite a bit. One gain for fronts and one for rears.

If you leave it plugged in you can toggle the DSP on and off and hear how crappy it used to be!
