I can attest to that. I had a BMW X3 Diesel. Loved that car. Drove like a tank. Got 35 miles per gallon. Then everyone cheated. When I went to extend the warranty (because you never want to own a BMW off warranty) the cost was $9K! I asked why -- they said because all of the censors required to meet the emissions standards were super expensive, flaky and pretty much guaranteed to fail. BMW knew that shit was going to fail and was charging accordingly. Too bad ... I do miss the engine and the mileage ...

This post should get sticky'd so it can be referred to every time anyone even says the word diesel. Toyota is working as fast as they can on putting batteries in all of their vehicles, I can promise you diesel is no where on their radar. I appreciate OP's intent though, he loves Tacomas and just wants to see cool trucks

    its going to happen

i might see it ..........................on my way out

    i wont be disappointed

All I want for Xmas are an engine with enough stock balls to actually handle real 33s, and an auto transmission that doesn't completely suck in every way imaginable. (even OVtune barely makes these things tolerable)

Beyond those, I need and want for nothing with my Tacoma.

Thanks to VW and stricter federal emission standards the diesel is dead in America. You will only see them in full size trucks and they will be dinosaurs soon with BEV trucks right around the corner. I predict that the Tesla Cybertruck will help lead the transition from fossil fueled pickups to electric propulsion.

And I love these type of responses... there's no reason you can't have both. F150s go all the from rubber floor with crank windows up to the Raptor. You want the cheap one you buy that and the people that want the Raptor buy that. It's pretty simple; there's room and market for both.

Why'd you buy the OR when you could have an SR for cheaper with less tech like you wanted?

Interesting that GM sold 4 times less canyons than colorados. Its the same truck except for some cosmetic things.

I mostly stand here and scribble into a leather-bound notebook and hope that nobody notices that I just sort-of showed up one day.

Nah, this is just a very simple (but pretty looking) test to ballpark the cation exchange capacity of clays.

A Tacoma Pro is almost that much now and with things you’d like to see I’m sure it would put it at that price point

Oh so you want a base model Tacoma with rubber floors? Tacoma’s don’t have package options like the F150 because they don’t sell nearly as many Tacoma’s as they do F150’s. And to make that many packages/models would slow down their productions and add cost to their manufacturing process.

Why’d I get a OR? Because it was what was available when I bought it. The 17’s just hit and inventory was low. Most SR’s are 4 cyl. Opted for a 17 over a left over 16 because of the power rear window. It’s a little hard to reach back and close a rear window in a double cab. My truck is just the base OR. Added heated seats myself and could care less about blind spot monitors, dual zone climate or sunroof.

I certainly don't want a base model; that's why I got the OR. But some people do and some people want the Pro. All I'm saying is you have buyers at all ends of the market and to ignore the higher level because Toyota already leads the pack is dumb.

And facts are that most people do want more tech in their cars now save a small portion of the population (likely flip phone owners :anonymous:). This can be seen by all manufacturers adding in tech all the time.

Also, it's couldn't care less and I'm bored.

I think Polaris was more innovative from the start with the RZR, though Can-Am is giving them a run for their money now. The Tacoma has never been a revolutionary vehicle, just a good reliable truck. Kind of like Honda atvs. Their Rancher atv has been a best seller for awhile and it's just a simple quad, kind of like the Tacoma is a relatively simple truck. I agree it can be frustrating waiting for updates from companies like Honda and Toyota, but that slow and methodical nature also produces some quality vehicles, albeit not the fastest or flashiest. Fortunately, the other mid size truck offerings aren't as compelling as they could be, IMO. SXSs and ATVs are a different story though. I want them all! lol

Tacoma = Honda 160cc small engine. 10mm socket takes them both apart.

if toyota offered a diesel for the taco i would buy for sure. throw in a diesel engine from hino (they have ownership stake) since collaborating with other manufactures is the in thing with them right now (subaru, bmw, mazda, yamaha, future suzuki partnership, etc.)
