Is that welded together? How do you do that?

Yeah we actually used to have a guy who worked here who was previously a welder so we have half a machine shop and welding equipment to maintain and build our equipment but since he's gone we will probably be outsourcing our metal work. My boss used to be a machinist but he's almost 70 so he doesn't do as much work in the shop as he used to. I need to learn to use all this stuff because I'm by far the youngest guy here and ill be left having to figure out how it all works at some point because everything breaks eventually.

Yep its welded. I assume its similar to metal, we buy the ground plate glass to size and we use hand torches running a mixture of hydrogen/oxygen to heat up glass rod and fill the gap were welding between two pieces of plate. Once its all welded up, we aneal it in an oven because it would be very fragile otherwise due to the strain that heating it creates.

If you're welding glass, welding metal will be simple for you. It will just take a little while to learn what temps and feeds but you'll pick up on it fast with your background

I got in a hurry feeding this cutter by hand and broke a bolt that holds an insert in. In my 25 years of machining I’ve never broke one (a screw). I got lucky and got it out and had a spare. It’s an M2.5

This is what happens when I get in a hurry and don’t focus. Forgot to add .500” for cutter comp and this step isn’t supposed to be here. I’ll fix it in the morning before the boss gets in, shhhhh ;) time to go back to the store and work.

He said it goes on an old disc tongue. It’s one of them deals where when you hear it, it’s too late.

I’m gonna try to repair this one, they use it at their hunting club. Looks to be cast steel so it should weld good.

I wrote a note so I could remember to tell my wife some chips need a price. Our daughter just came in and told me I need to work on my writing. I said can you do better? She said yes.

I've had to get some of those screws for a customer. They have a weird head shape and are like $6 a piece.
