@Kwikvette started working up loads for my .303 British tonight. Since standard LR primers are unobtainable right now, I decided to pick up a few sleeves of magnum LR primers instead of dive into my stash. Started pretty close to the bottom of the Sierra data and went as high as 1.5gr below max. Everything Ive read online says to compensate for the hotter magnum primer you need to drop the powder charge 1-2 gr on average. We shall see I guess, hope it works out since I can buy several thousand LR magnum primers without issue...for now.

Shit, I've never used magnum in a non-magnum application.

What powder do you use for a .303?

I'm guessing close to Varget or RL15?

Yup. Imr 4064 is my favorite flavor for old military calibers. Pretty much identical data to Varget, its just more available in my area. Another good one was Imr 4320 until they quit making it. Imr 4895 is my backup if I cant find 4064.

Be curious what kind of velocity you get, not to mention standard deviation after you do a ladder test for the best recipe and measure every shot with a chrony.

Im just shooting for a close match to the MK7 .303 ball ammo the British used in the war. 2450 fps is the goal. I will chrony them if the weathers good enough this weekend for my cheap chronograph to work.

Just had a member post about giving his 16 yo son this pristine 06 XL470 as his first car. This is a lot of car for a first car. I've seen kids get rigs like the to start driving. But usually, they have a couple of years experience a farm tractor or combine. Nice clean specimen.

Meanwhile, all my stuff is collecting dust :pout:

One frustrating thing for me when I work up a load on an older rifle like an SKS or something, I do ladder tests at 200-300 to find the accuracy nodes.

All this to work up the 'best of' on the lighter side, and hotter side.

Once ammo is completely dialed in, then I proceed to shoot standing, sitting, kneeling, or prone to ensure that anything off is strictly user error and not my equipment.

    Damn that's clean!

You'd hate to see the youngsters who come into our dealership only to get a JL Rubicon or even a Gladiator as their first car.

One 17 year old the other month got a new Charger Scatpack.
