Would have loved to try it, but that was my fear.

Wish I would have never traded my 17 Tacoma for that ZR2 but this forum and the hard on for diesels everyone has here made me wonder why anyone would buy a gasser off road vehicle. So I wanted to try it for myself. Quickly learned that was a giant mistake.
Modern diesels aren't that great. 90s and early 2000s here stateside were good and the ones made today overseas as well.

Same here, i think the power is good. Im happy with it. I will try the Vf tune in the near future though, some things could be improved.

But since they are charging quite a bit for the Pro, that would have been a cool upgrade. Who wouldnt want extra 30 hp? But i see what you are saying how it could mimic the raptor a bit.

Imagine the shit show on TW if Pros were actually tuned for a bit more power from the factory?

Yes. Other than the suspension and cosmetics, I feel like the TRD OR is basically a Pro. To me a Pro should be a larger step above. The ZR2 is a big step above the Colorado Z71. The Raptor isn't just a spruced up FX4. The Wrangler Rubicon is a step above the Sahara. Etc, etc. As it is, I feel like all I need to do is add a TRD Pro suspension, change the wheels, and boom; same as the Pro, performance wise. At least put better tires on. Baby steps..

Edit: don't get me wrong. I'm proud that I'm only a couple of parts away from a Pro, but still. People are paying a premium. They should at least get something more than a suspension and cosmetics.

Agree. I know it’s difficult to produce a diesel and make it to standards and all that. I understand why the don’t do it. Very expensive and risky.

Also agree on the tires, especially on a truck that literally as “Off Road” in the name it would be nice to see something besides GoodYear Kevlars. Some A/T’s at the very least.

There’s no doubt that this would be the ultimate downfall of it. Otherwise, it’d be rock solid upgrade I think several would be interested in.

Toyota has no incentive to improve their game for fuck's sake. They know that plenty of people will line up to pay up.

Toyota should be lambasted hard for the lack of QDR on the 3rd gen. It's likely to be known as a malaise era Tacoma, but i's still rather own it vs. some pile that GM or FCA screwed together. The Ford Bronco is interesting, but I see nothing but a sea of Connies and Carols buying these things trying to relive their youth.

I'm not even sure why the Gladiator is even mentioned. The price point for one of those is stupid and the wheel base is equally stupid.

Toyota still has to maintain CAFE standards, FCA is playing a short game.

Top 5 reasons I bought my Toyota:

    1) Huge fan of Manual Transmisson and it’s one of very few vehicles that offer it with fairly little hassle.

    2) Was really between a Jeep and the Tacoma at the time and felt like I got way more for the money with the Tacoma. 4 doors, more towing capacity, better mileage, more power, rear locker, and a bed to haul things in for as much or less than a 2 Door Wrangler.

    3) I had a Toyota previously and obviously trusted their reliability.

    4) I was confident that if I didn’t like my truck for whatever reason, that I could get rid of it or trade without losing my ass.

    5) I think the 3rd Gen’s are sharp looking trucks.

Exactly! Well said. As long as tacomas are out selling the nearest competitors by a 2 to 1
margin which they are, what’s the panic for them lol. They have always been number one in sales for midsize no matter how many want to play in the segment.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
There mere fact that modern diesel owners have to add extra liquid so that their truck runs right is laughable.

Yeah it’s pretty pathetic. Lesson learned and will never entertain the “got to have the diesel” hype ever again lol.

I agree that the Gladiator is stupid. It’s a good idea, but I think it may be better as a 2 Door with a shorter bed. I know a few people who have them, and honestly they just look awkward as hell. Especially without the 285s offered in the higher trims.

As for the Bronco, I think Ford is really gonna see a good number out of these things. Will they out sell Jeep? Probably not. But I do think they will sell well, especially the first 2 years of production.
