I have a 2012 base model. I bought the brackets for a 32 inch lighg bar that goes behind the bumper. I bought the brackets that cause you to have to cut out the insert. I want to cut my brackets so I don't have to cut out the insert. Does anyone happen to know the length? From where the light bar bolts up to where the back of the bracket is?

Serious. You don't have a ruler or tape measure?

Looks to be about 10 inches.

I “think” he want to know how much he needs to trim from the bracket to make it work without cutting the insert on the truck. Maybe he needs to know how much to trim off the bracket?
The wording of the question is a bit confusing?
    Maybe I’m wrong?

Best I got is, cut a little and try. If it doesn’t fit, cut more.

What brand of brackets you buy? The caliraised ones I bought didn't require any cutting.

It appeared to be asking the distance between his thumb and finger. ???

I had to make a snarky comment too. :)

When I first read it, I thought the same thing.
Then, I thought “That can’t be what he’s asking”
    But you never know?

3" lift on 33 inch Nitto's with 18" Fuel wheels. N-Fab step bars. Husky floor liners.
Just cut out the insert. It will push the light bar out more and give you much better light. Just saying...
