Yeah, I had dark tint on my front windshield too (like can't see in). Came that way from where I bought her at a used dealership in Dec. 2018:

    20200109_131840.jpg
    20200616_111924.jpg

The local tint shop ended up putting a ceramic film on the inside (with a slight tint) along with a black strip on the outside in July20200709_162032.jpg

It still kept the truck relatively "cool" in the Mississippi summer.

Of course my side glass is dark as hell (and that's staying put).

    There's a reason it's illegal. Pretend you're a cop, you can't see in anywhere. On the 45 and 70 % tints, I've got nothing.....

I realize that can be an issue. I however had several vehicles tinted. I never do more on the windshield than the sun strip. I do the front side windows to block some of the heat and glare. My Jeep was
A shade lighter than the rears no cop said a thing and I've had several interactions with them over stupid things in that like the emissions sticker diesels don't need.
The one car I had that I actually purchased that way was a dark red nissan maxima with shiny polished aftermarket wheels and tint all around but the windshield. I know it looked like a drug dealers car and I'm sure I was profiled in that way when I got ticketed for it.
Now I have the Tacoma tinted, front windows to match the rear. I pulled in to work and got out of the truck as the one school resource officer was there in the lot, they are regular police despite the assignment. He says to me when I got out. " Oh it's you Mr. Parks, nice truck". I doubt he cared about the tint.

Most cops don't - it's more of a "consolation prize" where attitude dictates how much bonus attention you get. At least that's what it was when I was on the road. NOT saying that's what happened to you OP - just that's pretty much what it was. Typically, matting the accelerator and leaving a patch at the green light got you the attention you wanted, or aggressive driving, playing your music so loud you couldn't hear Godzilla if he were next to you, etc. The tint ticket was an added F-U. For us, the "rule of thumb" if we didn't have a meter was being able to tell the race and sex of an occupant - if you couldn't, tint was probably too dark. I think I wrote one of those in 12 years. Kinda hypocritical to write a guy then get in your own car that's got limo tints on it. Sucks.

We actually both came up at a stop sign across from each other at the same time. I recently put a off-road front bumper on my truck and was waiting for the license plate bracket to come in which did yesterday lol anyways he said he pulled me over for no front license plate and side window tints and then once he noticed my windshield he said “I’ll warn you for the other two but writing you up for the windshield get that taken off “ I was on my way to my assembly plant that’s pretty well known in my area i work with alot of truck guys who have and had thier windshield tinted that same county sheriff has tagged 4 other guys here from work. The other guys have been lucky so far I suppose. I’m not mad about it if he feels the need to use his power that way it’s a bummer he cares more than all the state cops I’ve driven by but to each their own.

I have my front windshield done with clear ceramic. It makes a massive difference with the heat.

Yeah I've been hearing that, I really need to investigate that further. I'm such a heat snob.

    boom!

Honestly guys, if you already have moderate tints like I do (35% front, 5% rear and side glass) 75% windshield helps so much during the day (heat) and night (headlights) and it’s barely even noticeable looking head on during the day because of glare from the sun anyways.

No, it won’t however, proper maintenance and 303 protectant will help preserve the life of your dash as will sun shades you can pick up, or may have been provided by the dealership.

You’re also in SF so the temp thing is a mute point.

    Sincerely, a native Arizonan.

doesn’t help you were at 45% too my man. I bet at 75% you MAY have not gotten one. I’ve only been pulled over once since my tint and I’ve never gotten a ticket for them.

luck? Maybe, but I went out of way to make sure my rear glass was a shit ton darker than the front sides & windshield so the offset makes it appear a lot more “normal” to a cop

Grew up in Hawai’i(Oahu). Had limo on the sides and like 15 On the front in my Benz. I got a pulled over for speeding and good jammed for 247 dollars per window. I have clear tint on my tacoma and use window shades. It isn’t worth looking cool to possibly give the local govt more of your hard earned money.

Stock windshield is 70%, not sure the extra 5% will make a difference to cooling or UV..

60% ceramic is pretty much clear, my wife has it in her car. I have 50 or 45 can’t remember, you can still see me. But my sides are only 15 (lowest llumar formula one stratos went)

Edit: correction wife has 70 and I have 50%. I wouldn’t mind doing 40 though.
