Ha I was right. The RTX 3080 is 30-70% more powerful than a 2080. Not the double the performance nVidia claimed unless you count some very weird settings.

 

Don't get me wrong, the 3080 is a great upgrade but it's just not the upgrade nVidia claimed and built the hype around. It's also a power hog at 350 watts max draw measured to the card. It leaves room for team red to drop a card at a similar performance level since rumors have it pegged at or just below the 3080. If you're only comfortable with nVidia and are still toting a Maxwell based card, the 3080 is a great option. Otherwise wait for team red to drop their announcement in a month. Even if you wouldn't buy an AMD card odds are big Navi will get close enough to the 3080 to cause some price wars.

 

30-70 of a 2080 or a 2080ti? Haven't gotten to see any reviews yet so just curious.

But also not surprised either based on all the footnotes that were on nvidia's charts after the presentation.

Hopefully big navi turns out well.

 

30-70% over the 2080. More like 10-40% past the 2080Ti. Probably means the 3070 will be at the 2080Ti performance levels only in select titles.

Wait two months for nVidia prices to drop if Big Navi is good. That's my take anyways.

 

Like reviewers are saying it's still a very good dollar to dollar improvement over the 20 series. It's just not the crazy jump though that nVidia hyped up which is why it's disappointing. It's better than the 20 series improvement for sure but not the "largest generation on generation," increase they said it would be. That title still belongs to the 600 series over the 500 series, which was truely double performance with less power draw. This is a big jump, up to 70%, but with literally 100 watts more power draw. Even the 10 series from the 900 series was arguably a larger jump than this.

 

EVGA for life. Can't wait to pick up a FTW3.

 

I still plan on getting a 3090. I'm just ready that the increase won't be maybe as epic as I expected but still awesome. This is one of the best jumps of all time and it returns value to the market over what the 20 series did.

I hooked up my sdr to this computer and the waterfall was super fast and clear. It was great.

 

I have a problem.

 

O its still a good card. But like you said disappointing at the same time that its not what they said it would be. Think Linus sums it up pretty well.

Be interesting to see the 3080ti numbers when they come out. And the 3090 of course.
