A previous fix that I did to someone’s truck was to weld in some 3/16 solid rod around the perimeter of the damaged area (usually at the lower edge by the core support bushings). That reinforces the edge of the core support and braces the larger flat areas that are prone to cracking. It’s easier than plating the area which would just move the stress to the outer edge of the newly added plate.

That would be good to get a few others in here and brainstorm some more. I haven't even really begun to think of what I'm doing with the core support. I've been mostly sitting and looking and focusing on how to strengthen and stiffen the frame and get the suspension working more and better and not twisting as much.

In for deets. This is the next thing I need to address on my truck but that also requires time and resources to do so. It'll be interesting to see what you come up with. I like the work done on @Sterling_vH111 truck the most so far. I'd prefer to plate in some of the open areas but I'd be interested in something similar myself.

A few steps I have taken to reduce this without success. I moved my battery under the bed to move the weight off the core support and boxed the frame. Both of which are great but the damage is done. I need a more suitable solution.

@sytfu510 also sent me some photos of his truck that helped with ideas.

I forget the thread but another member did this for the front support:

    60A20606-4259-49C5-BA53-0ACA0E3FB94A.jpg

And @Wishbone Runner has a nice square tube core support if I remember right.

I need to finish the front section some day. Re hanging all the front fascia and coolers/radiator seems like it will be a b*tch though.

    Yep, that's fuckered.

Bolt on would be interesting. Been beating on this setup for 3 years and no new weak points that I have found, yet.

Not that hard, just time consuming.

Also ran a beam across the horns to reduce twisting.

I had NV Fab up in Oceano do the work in the pictures @Dalandser posted.

Also to clarify, the picture of the square tube support is not my truck. Just a science photo I saved haha.

I like the frame horn cross support. I’ll definitely be stealing ideas from ya in the future!

I did that to mine already as far as the plating and beefing up the bumper hardware.
I'm interested in seeing what you come up with as far as a bumper goes when moving that crossmember up, that's been on my list for a while now. Where is your's ripping in the rear after strengthening it up? I am taking some of the ideas from the Desert guys as they seem to have more issues with this from the high flying. I think some will be permanent and other parts will be bolted on. I like all the ideas and stuff that people have posted so far definitely looking at them and has me thinking.

Damn. In the bed? I'm going to go look at mine now

Funny how we continually uncover the weak shit fix it then something else pops up all trying to push "stock" crap as far as it'll go.

I really wanted to replace the cab mounted fender/hood supports. But every time I started looking at how/where to attach it to the cab I came back to the idea that I was either going to do a massive amount of plating on the firewall, or rip a hole in the firewall with whatever I did.

So my hood, fenders, headlights, rad and grill will all attach to the frame, and the articulation point will be at the A pillar between the front clip and the cab.

Reading through this thread, it seems to me that some of you folks might want to look at buying military surplus Hummers and MRAPs.

    Just a random thought.
