Rubber brake hoses....OEM or Aftermarket??

Im a stupid ass and ripped the outer rubber casing in the drivers side brake hose from the caliper up to where it hits the hard line.

Do i go with OEM lines at $70 each or some aftermarket duralasts at the local autozone for 24 bucks each?

Shop says i should do both at the same time to due to fatigue and even braking.

Bring my own hoses and they will do them 65 bucks per side. Not horrible....and i hate doing brake line shit. I aways mess up the fitting or the bleeder or end up hating myself. Cold weather state so everything is corroded to hell and back.

Surely the aftermarket ones meet spec so why not?

 

65 for labor per side with you providing the parts, that's crazy! DIY

 

I would buy the OEM and do them myself . YouTube a video if you need to see how to .

 

Wow I need to charge more $130.00 to change 2 brake hoses and bleed the brakes .

Then added expense for broken rusted fittings .

Till this is done it could get very expensive .

If you can`t do the work you pay the price.

yeah i might give it a shot. THe lines alone are going to be over $130 bucks which is nuts. 2 1 foot hydraulic hoses....

My biggest fear is getting the bleeders loose or the lines at the hard line. Both are fucked from 16+ years of heat, -30 degree temps and road salt. THat hardline is in the stupidest place ever where you cant get to it as well. I suppose i should give it a shot. I have the line wrenches and ability.....i am just so tired of fucking with this thing.....and waiting on parts.

ANyone have a parts manual handy? I cant seem to find the banjo bolt part number for each side. They are not listed at mcgeorge on the diagrams. Mine are likely garbage. So rusted they dont even look like a bolt head any longer.

 

For about, or less then $130, you can buy Crown lines from Marlin and get all 3 (2 front and 1 rear) stainless steel. Better made hose then factory rubber imo.

If you need new banjo bolt, there shouldn't be an issue with napa brand or what your local auto parts have. If the hard line end gets damaged, you can cut the hard line as close as possible to the end (buy a spare hard line from napa with matching thread/size) and use the end than re-flare the hard line.

I recommend soaking both ends with atf or some sort of penetrating oil every couple of hour for at least a day or so, if it's really bad. Then try to break them loose that way. Need help? YouTube will be your friend. Changing brake lines and bleeding them is pretty much the same for all vehicle, there's nothing special about these tacoma.

yeah...ive done them on several cars over the years here. Shit show....but its doable. Lots of soaking and heat and time. I will check into those lines. Looks to be about 97+ shipping for that kit for stock length and the .50 clips and washers. Thats not bad.

Still need the banjo bolts for the front calipers...and the stock part numbers for those. I might call my local dealer for those and have them add it to the pile of crap i need to go pick up from them.

 

They have them for stock application as well, but buy what you preferred. Just another option.

 

THanks for the option. They do look nice. Comes out cheaper than the OEM ones with the discount at mcgeorge and has the hardware (clips and junk) included. I might go this route.

 

local dealership wants $8 a piece for the banjo bolt.........geez....

or
~120 with shipping or so from Marlin....for the crown stuff.

 

I would check out Rock auto. They have the best prices.

 

yup...which is why i asked about aftermarket vs oem parts. I could be done for around $50 from Rockauto.....but also i dont want crap. Maybe that wasnt clear per my original post.

 

A bunch of the ones from rock auto are random universal ones with extra brackets on them.

 

When in doubt with breaking those hardlines free, use some heat.

 

yup...that usually works. I have found that will get your fitting to spin free from the hardline but almost always the hardline will twist at the fitting due to corrosion and then you have a broke hardline to recreate and fight with.
