Time has come for my first service of my 2020 taco Pro. Will they say anything about my pedal commander? Will i be heckled with all the upgrades i did, like 33 tires and fox 2.5s suspension. Will they they to pull the you void this and that warranty? I red somewhere in here that if i wanted an oil change i have to pay extra for it. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Pleae share your experience on your first service of yoir modified taco.

Just keep your back to the wall, and don't bend over anywhere near the Service Manager.

5000 mile service is basically a tire rotation. First oil change is at 10K miles.

    Depends on the dealer

A good one will rotate your aftermarket wheels and tires, admire your suspension upgrades, and proceed to chastise you for paying a Pro premium and upgrading all the parts you paid extra for

Good luck with the appointment, hopefully you get taken care of

Thanks for the suspension admiration. I was originally buying a TRD OR but i got my pro for almost the same price last april when no one is buying. 1k below invoice. And then i wanted to fit 285’s but don’t wanna do spacer. So i sold my tfd fox with 400 miles on it and added a bit more money to get the 2.5s. I guess would rather be ridiculed for someone who bought a pro then swap his suspension than someone with a pro and have spacers on it. But that just me

My experience for the 5K service was that is was a waste of time, they refused to look at the concerns I had, even though I stated them clearly when I made the appointment. After they took the truck in I realized that I had left the aftermarket lug nut key in a cubby in the center console. I waited for someone to come out to ask me for it, no one did. An hour later they brought the truck back with a service report stating they checked everything over and rotated the tires. I asked them how they got the wheels off without the key, and got a blank stare and the tech said he didn’t know. I asked him to confirm and he left and came back in a few minutes and told me that he couldn’t find anyone that knew for sure if they had actually rotated them. The service manager intervened and said not to worry, the tires really didn’t need rotating every 5K anyway, and they would make sure that they were done at the 10k service. Kind of lost my trust at that point, and I will be taking my truck to another dealer in the future. Oh, I they also told me that any warranty concerns require a separate appointment and that I would need to leave my vehicle with them for the day in spite of the fact that my issues were minor inspection concerns, no loaners, and I was also told that the morning shuttle, if desired, could be more than a two hour wait, and if I needed to be anywhere it would be best to make my own arrangements. Very disappointed, my GMC dealer would provide a loaner for free, even for a service, if it was going to be more than a couple of hours and they were very responsive to my concerns.

Sorry to rant, but it was a sore point with me, my wife has a Lexus and the dealership there is worlds apart from my Toyota dealer, maybe I was expecting too much.

You could get one over on that dealership by contacting corporate. That’s some straight up BS right there.

This might help. I am retired and Medicare screwed up on paying the doctor one time. I tried nicely to get it resolved, but just got the run around. So I combed the internet to get the contact information for the highest ranking officer at Medicare I could find. I got the email of the Chief Operating Officer, and left an email about my issue.
You would not believe how fast I was contacted, they even resolved the issue right over the phone. I also received three follow up calls to make sure I was happy. I was very nice in my email, even stating that I know this wasn’t her job. Give it a try, you just might get a call from a contrite service manager

I didn't make that mistake, just like I didn't buy a top model truck and then ditch half the parts for aftermarket stuff.

The LAST place I'd ever take a vehicle for service is to the dealer. I'm a long time Toyota owner, and you can't walk in the place that they don't tell you you need to replace something or do something that is totally unnecessary. It's 10X as bad if you're a female. My wife gets her RAV4 serviced at the dealer because part of the sales deal was two years of free full service. All they want to do is change the oil and filter, and try to charge her for the cabin air filter, engine air filter, tell her she needs new wiper blades or the air in her tires exchanged for nitrogen, sell her a new set of tires for 10% more than any tires store in town, even when there are only 25K miles on the tires (Michelins that will go 70K). Last time they told her the car needed an alignment; the tires are wearing perfectly.

You could buy a brand new car from them, drive around the block and pull back in, and they'd tell you it needed something fixed. Their main problem is, they sell too good a car, and need to make money somehow after the sale. I've never had a Toyota (on our 8th one now) that needed more than oil and filter changes and an occasional set of tires for the first couple hundred thousand miles.

when I took it for it's first scheduled service, I made the mistake of not telling them what I DIDN'T want done. All dealer experiences are going to be different and mine wasn't that bad compared to what others have gone through. Let them do the basic checks, but I shy away from letting them rotate, wash, or anything else that you know they won't pay more than a cent of attention to. Last time I went it, I asked them to reprogram my tpms. Why, you ask? well the service before that they programmed them to the winter setup I had without my knowledge, but wanted to charge me to reprogram them back...They weren't even honest about airing up my tires, or should I say airing down. They said they put them to the factory spec and even had a printout with the tires showing so. I immediately said bs and showed them (on the then programmed tires) that they were still at what I had them at. I asked what else they hadn't done, which the service guy didn't like. I won't go back again unless absolutely necessary. Good luck, and make sure read the service writeup when they give it to you and go over everything.
