Just realized as I pulled into the driveway that I drove 30ish miles in S mode, not D. I must of over-zealously shifted from park. What did I break? RPMs looked a bit high on the highway.

Short answer, nothing. Long answer, it’s all in the manual that came free with the purchase of your vehicle. Learn your truck.

Nothing, don't worry about it. All you did was block out overdrive on the highway.

You’ve trashed your gearbox and probably engine. You need to sell it now. Ignore all those carvana posts, and since I’m feeling generous, I’ll offer you $10k.

Broke it in...won’t hurt anything. Truck seems pretty happy to turn 3500 RPMs and higher, that where they start making power. Likely lost some fuel economy on that trip. That’s all.

    Must buy ridgeline asap.

No, but in all honesty no harm was done. Your engine probably liked those higher rpms for a bit there.

It's not a manual, shifting to S doesn't do anything harmful. It will default to 4th gear or lower if that is the gear you were in while in D. If you go from 5th or 6th in D into S I believe it will downshift to 4th gear which might lead to some high revs but I don't think that would do any damage either.

I'll use the S Mode on occasion for engine braking to slow the truck down on steep grades to save the brakes some. Its about the only use unless towing.

I love S mode on these trucks... super useful in the mountains. I've shifted it by accident before as well. No issues.

S - Sequential, it locks out the highest gear your truck will shift into. If you go into S5, it won't go into 6th gear. 5th is an overdrive gear, so if you drive around in S5 you'll tend toward about 2k rpm at 65-70 on the highway, which is fine, and you won't have it drop from 6th to 4th to come out of overdrive all the time (the "gear hunting") people complain about in the 3rd gens.

By default it goes into S4, which is a non-overdrive gear. Your truck often goes into 4th on the highway anyway.

I think it also does something with the shift timing or patterns, but very minor. So in theory S6 is not the same as D, but practically it is. I usually use S5 on the highway and go into S6 on a big downhill, otherwise it stays in S5.

Getting ready to head to the mountains for the first time with a fancy new auto transmission. I know to use low gears in mountains. I did not know the how to of this transmission.

So i opened the owners manual

It's simple just drive in "R" for 30ish miles and any damage done will be reversed
