New Pioneer DMH-WC6600NEX flush mount install

I want to tweak mine but I don't want to pull it back out to flash it again. I am hoping they release the app soon so I can do it via bluetooth on my phone.

 

I dropped a usb cable to the glove box that will remain in the RR2. When I get an itch to monkey with the programming, I just take my laptop to the truck, plug in the usb connection and play.

 

That would mean I would have had to plan ahead lol but it is a great idea. Something I might need to do at some point.

 

I just installed new Kicker tweeters and door speakers. Does anyone have any EQ setting recommendations for running Kicker CS speakers without an amp and the 6600 head unit?

 

I quoted you in a different thread because this is the original with a ton of information in it. I believe the OP replaced his JBL hu. I’m not sure if anyone has replaced the amp. This would be the place to find out though.

 

I have removed my entire jbl amp and head unit. I tapped into the wiring that is harnessed at the amp. The amp is attached to the factory jbl subwoofer box that is located behind the paneling on the back passenger side rear wall. I cut the wires off of the harness for all of the speaker connections. The wiring of the jbl amp is the same as the previous gen. From here I soldered the proper wires to extension speaker wires to run into my aftermarket amplifier. So basically, my aftermarket amplifier feeds sound to my speakers from the oem harness that was tied into the jbl amplifier. I left all of the other wires still connected to the oem harness, but not plugged into anything. When wiring the maestro unit, I followed the maestro wiring diagram except for speaker connections. I did not tie anything into the maestro speaker connections or use the white and gray rca connections. All speaker connections are done from the jbl amp harness. The new remote wire will come off of the new deck. I have done this in my 2nd and now 3rd gen tacoma without issue. Here is the wiring diagram. @18' TACO TRD

 

That helps a lot! I just have a few questions.

1. The oem harnesses (power, ground, acc/remote, mute, input signal speaker wires) to be unplugged from the JBL amp?

2. When I relocated my JBL amp to under the seat. I remember I had to extend 2 white wires that ran from the amp and routed over to the corner of the cab behind plastic panel. When those white wires where disconnected the FM radio would go out. Do those 2 white wires need to remain? I figured they connected to the shark fin antenna on the roof but I don't think they were connected to anything, it was kinda weird. Do you know what they are?

3. So I should extend all the oem speaker wiring from each door to the new 4-channel amp? I have aftermarket JBL dash speakers. How did you power your dash speakers? 4-channel amp or from the new headunit?

4. The new maesto unit, gps, sat and steering wheel control harnesses will be located behind the radio correct?

Ok you are replacing jbl deck correct?

(1)/(2) If so, the harnesses that are plugged into the oem amplifier can be unplugged completely.

(3)-- I would use the wiring diagram and run speaker wire from the 4-channel amp and tie it into the wires that are on the harness where the oem amp was. I have never noticed a difference in sound quality running new wire from the aftermarket amp straight to the doors. I think is is not beneficial. (3 Tweeters)-- When i removed the dash tweeters, they are already wired. So you just need to install those wires on the new tweeters. If your new tweetes require a crossover, tie the oem wire to the crossover, then to the tweeter. You can probably even drop it down into the dash. The Subaru tweeters come with a cap wired in so they do not require an seperate crossover. When I do these systems, I always tie the tweeters in with the speaker to the corresponding side. So, if you hit the wires at the oem amp location, tie the left tweeter and left speaker together, and then to the left speaker wire from your amplifier.

(4)--Yes that is correct. Make sure to purchase the oem gps to pioneer gps cable.(available on Amazon by Maestro) Satellite I have not used, but would tie in if you are using one. Steering wheel controls are built into the maestro, so it will be tied in with one of the maestro harnesses. Also make sure to have the antenna adapter. This will have a wire that needs to be tied into the BLUE remote wire. This sends power to the shark fin antenna. (Amazon by Maestro also) Hope this helps.

(3 tweeters) I have these for my dash tweeters. They are 2 ohm. I currently have them connected to the oem wiring. So it's okay to tie the left door speaker - & left tweeter - together and left door speaker + & left tweeter + together then connect to new amp? (same for the right side) Wouldn't this mess up the ohm/load or no?

My aftermarket JBL door speakers are all 2 ohm

Correct on wiring. This is how I have been doing it for years. Actually I have been doing all left together and all right together instead of front and rear. This allows me to run entire mids and highs from a 2 channel amp. Yes it will technically knock the ohms down but they are able to handle it without the lower bass frequency. Then use the gain and crossover to adjust.

 

So you lose the lower bass frequency to all door & dash speakers tho?

I would basically have this setup and wanna wire it for best sound and get full frequency. So 6 speakers wired to 4-channel amp.

Sorry, so u are not adding aftermarket subs? Are u going to run the stock jbl subwoofer? You can tune the mids and highs to your liking. You will not lose anything. When I wire a system I take about 90 something percent of the bass out of my mids and highs and use the subs for this frequency. This will also allow the mids and highs to achieve louder cleaner mid and high frequencies. So if u are going to run the stock jbl amplifier we will have to wire differently than we originally talked about. Maybe shoot me a pm so we can discuss more without filling this thread. Let me know.

 

Just wondering if the face plate/dash in your limited is any different from my SR5. I've done car audio in the past but I don't want to cut up mine haha

Edit: Just found out you're using the premium bezel and that is the part I'm looking for. Anyone know any good ideas for trimming or affordable bezels that will fit?

 

eBay or from someone on here are your best bet for the cheaper price. Dealer would be the next option but pretty expensive. The op of this thread I believe cut his in a mill. So was very nice clean cut.

 

Your other option is to search local salvage yards. If the outer trim is scuffed, you can pull the outer trim on your current bezel.

 

I already have 2-10" JL Audio subs and amp. The JBL speakers are rated @ 2.3 ohms. If you wire the door speaker and dash tweeter together will it drop under 2 ohm which would overheat the amp? The dash speaker is more like a small woofer Instead of small tweeter. Crutchfield said I can wire the dash speakers off the radio but I prefer to run everything off the new 4-channel amp if I can.

AVH-2400NEX and I only had to move 1 wire. On the old harness it was mute and on the new harness it was the VSS wire. So only had to cut it and crimp the vss pink wire to it.

Well, after reading about 40 pages, and still going, I ORDERED ONE from Crutchfield, I got all the recommended items that they brought up.
I noticed that the kit comes with a GPS antenna adapter already. I don't really care for XM.
Do I need anything else?
