What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Ya its some bs hopefully I can get the cluster out with my cab cage I just bougnt the truck back had it for almost 10 years then sold it a year ago and just bought it back Sunday. Can't wait to get out of Cali with there stupid ass laws and regulations. I do have a choice illegal smog but rather do it the right way. Thankfully the smog guy was chill and didn't charge me for the test because his machine was also having problems

 

WTF!!! you have to pay each time!!! Are you serious???? Its free here at least! I would be buckin that $hit..

 

There are some pass or don't pay places but not many any more. Now most do a free retest within 10 days

Thanks. Hopefully the bulb is the same as either abs or airbags as those are coming out anyways if I pull the cluster as both have been removed from the truck

If you don’t have certain options 90% chance you have completely unused bulbs in the cluster.
I know my non abs cluster did indeed have a abs bulb... it was brand new never used. Lol

 

The 5-Lug had the connector under the driver's seat for the rear locking diff. Only one of the pins were populated for an extraneous ground.

 

This is on my list of things to do
Should the metal be painted on the inside on the supports before welding or will that not make a difference, ordered a pair of these

 

The theory is that if you weld all the edges and holes completely, you seal out everything, so no rusting on the inside.

 

What brand of paint did you use, and does it color match ie (Lunar Mist) paint code. that's a great idea, since my center console is a little beat up, scratched and faded. Maybe a facelift will make it look better.

 

that's a good question, I would think that spraying some EASTWOOD INTERNAL FRAME COATING 14 OZ AEROSOL after the welding is done. I would think the heat from welding would screw up the paint adhesion if done before welding. Maybe someone will chime in with more experience, just my 2 cents worth.

 

Like @0xDEADBEEF said, fully welded should not allow oxidation. Some use weldable primers, I have no experience with them and have never had a problem with proper prepped and welded plates

Loved it

 

The snow was fantastic, temperature was 100 degrees one day and dropped to 31 degrees.

Getting tired of the heat, so the cooler temperatures Im looking forward too.

Supercharger hates the hot temperatures too

 

The welding will burn paint off. If it’s welded up right rust should be a non Issue
