2WD TRD Sport or TRD Off Road

I'm in the market for a new Toyota Tacoma, I don't want to go the 4x4 route but I do want to take it off road just trails nothing to extreme. The majority of my driving will be on the streets and roads plus I also do some towing. My question is should I get the TRD Sport or the TRD Off Road. Any and all feed back is greatly appreciated, thanks.

 

Test drive and see which one you prefer.

 

I don’t know too much about the 4x2 TRD Off-Road, but if I had to to guess, it probably won’t be worth getting. Sport for the win

Anyway, go for the sport, you’ll regret not getting a hood scoop. Been wanting the scoop for 8 years now

i think the 4wd is only a couple thousand more. i would just look for a 4wd sr5 if you looking to save some skrill. you yourself said that you want to offroad some and even tow. you can even opt to leave your truck stock height and get a set all terrain tires in the sl-rating if mpgs is a concern to you. better to have the 4wd in your situstion.

 

Rear Locker > Hood scoop.

Even if you just do mild off-roading in your 2WD it’s worth having. Get the OffRoad

 

Off Road for when you get stuck in a tiny rut on a service road.

No one regrets 4x4.

 

My son currently has a 2wd OR. It’s been a good truck for him. I don’t think you can go wrong with either. That said, if it’s gonna touch dirt, I’d probably go with the OR (for the rear locker).

 

I have a 2WD SR5 and it does great on road as well as light off-roading. However a locker would be nice.

 

Get the OR locker. Just a little bit more but not as much as 4×4. Also Bilstein shocks > Hitachi. You're welcome.

 

If you barely hit the trails, get the sport. The scoop is nice! You just need to choose the OR feature or the Sport scoop.

 

Just me I would never buy another two drive truck. Although I don’t use 4 wheel drive that much and 90 percent of my driving is highway and local street driving
I remember back sometime ago I had a two wheel drive ford 150 and we got an inch of snow on the road I could not even get out of my driveway it is better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it.

 

4x4 SR5 over both, honestly.

But test drive. I went 4x4 Sport because I hated the OR suspension so much.

Also, not a fan of the matte black plastic fender flares on a black truck. Looks stupid, IMO. Not as bad on other colors, though.

 

just get the fleet truck. lowest trim possible. that's what i go with utility package with no rear seats plus a long bed.

 

I think I should also mention that I live in Southern California so no snow driving and hardly any wet roads

 

I live in southern California too. When you have 4x4, you can go look for all of those things.

 

Do you ever drive outside of SoCal? How about ski trips to Big Bear or Mammoth? Ever considered a winter road trip to somewhere that does have snow? As others have said, better to have 4x4 and not need it than to need it and not have it. I was born and raised in SoCal, was 26 when I made my escape (which happened to be 26 years ago) and there's no way I'd ever own a truck that didn't have 4x4, regardless of where I live, as I like to road trip and you never know what kind of conditions you might encounter along the way. As an example, the high mountain passes on I-70 in CO can get snow as late as July.

 

My 2WD Sport gets me exactly where I need to go, thanks.
