adding rear defroster?

As far as I know, 2nd gen Tacoma's did not come with a rear window defroster.
Toyota has a reputation for being 10 years behind everyone else in technology,
and charging lots of money for new vehicles whose most advanced "feature" is a seatbelt.

I was disappointed to learn my much newer Tacoma did not have a defroster,
in winter snow, when I could not see

compared to my 90's VW, that had one

anyway...

Has anybody remedied this situation on their Taco by adding say, an aftermarket kit?
I am hoping it's as simple as slapping on/gluing on some defroster lines cut to shape, on a clear rear window. Maybe on the side ones that are stationary,
versus a sliding center that may stress a defroster electrical wire by moving/sliding

 

On the slider, just mount it on whatever side won't slide against the felt/rubber seal when you open/close it. Then arrange the wiring so it doesn't get hung up or snag on anything.

I am going to install one of those kits on my topper. Real straight forward. That company is also CO based ( out of Wheatridge area) just FYI.

 

I looked at the Clear View defrosters and it seems pretty simple from their instruction on the web site.

A little pricey for my blood, but it doesn't snow and ice much here in coastal SC.

 

I used one of their switches for heated mirrors. Very nice product I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase a full window defroster kit.

 

Appears to leave most Tacomas out.

 

Well you could get a solid window installed along with the defroster...

You know like accidents do happen and the rear window could be taken out by an errant baseball or something........
