It would be cool if Toyota struck up a deal for the 2.8L Cummins that they have available as a crate engine with a specific tune for Toyota to get 350-380 ftlbs out of it. It would prob be easier and faster than re-configuring their own diesels and tooling up to build it here. They can just have Cummins ship them the engines direct to the assembly plant. :welder:

Guys, you know you can get a diesel Tacoma today right? Simply buy a Tacoma for $40K, take it to Diesel Toys and pick it up in a few weeks with a brand new Toyota Diesel engine in there! Six speed manual transmission too!
Oh, I forgot one thing... you need to bring about $30K for this cool mod.
So, for only $70K you can own a diesel Tacoma!

I completely agree. They need to be offer a higher end off road trim. I am trading a 4runner for a new Bronco. There's a lot more competition recently in real off road capable vehicles. If Toyota wants to market their vehicles as off road, they need to step it up. Lower gearing, enough room for 35s+, lower geared transfer case, and front locker would be great. I would pay for the upgrade.

Just because people have easy credit and are too stupid to buy a truck they can actually afford doesn't mean its interesting or even good. Cars and Coffee is a joke now, just stupid kids showing off shit they bought while they couldn't change a tire if their lives depended on it.

I've seen some pretty cool trucks, and its their truck, and they picked what made it cool. If you are just going to go pick it out of a catalog I don't want to hear anything about how great your bone stock truck is. No one cares, and nothing is worse than hearing someone brag about features they checked on a build sheet.

If you buy a GT500 then try to brag about it, you are a loser. If you take that old fox body and re-build it in your garage and bring it to C&C that IS, without qualification, a better and more interesting car that people will notice. No one gives a shit about stock vehicles.

Maybe you just don't get it.

Well, Toyota did that. They made an absolutely amazing super-car. It took forever for them to get it the way they wanted it. It has a screaming flat plane V10 that sounds like pure sex. Its quickly becoming super collectible, but they couldn't give them away when they were new.

By the time it was ready it was $375,000 and they lost money on every one because you could buy a Nissan GTR for 90k that would out perform it on the track, despite being much less rewarding to drive.

I see a lot of shitbox rangers, without a doubt more than I see toyotas. Why? Simplicity. They didn't change much if anything for 20+ years. They won't die, but if they do, $100 in parts and they are running like new again. Granted they left most of their paint in the last decade.

Considering the Taco starts at 26k and the others start in the mid 30s you would think that other brands would try to make a less expensive truck with LESS options instead of making the clear winner of this segment make a MORE expensive truck.

Don't we all have a bazillion cupholders? 2 in front of the shifter, 1 behind it, 2 in the center console, plus 8 more in the door pockets? How many cupholders do we really need to be happy?

How many cupholders do the competition have? This is the real question.

I'll never complain about cup holders after having a 2002 single cab M/T. I did have a cup holder in that thing, but I couldn't have a cup in it and be in 5th gear at the same time lol

I think the Tacoma serves its purpose well and offers nice choices from SR to Pro trims depending on your wants or needs. I have no regrets and love mine.

A full size is for you if you tow regularly and need more power. Tundra is finally getting a refresh, long overdue but is happening. They already have very off road capable SUVs with the land cruiser, sequoia and 4Runner and options for different budgets.

Toyota blew it with the FJ cruiser in my opinion, I know they were already discontinued but this should have been a Jeep competitor like the 1st gen land cruiser. If it had a removable top and doors this would have filled the niche Toyota is missing in the off road vehicle segment. In my opinion they should bring this back but make it a convertible with removable doors and it would be very popular.

As a follow up, the 4Runner needs to step up its options more than Tacoma. Toyota should add a trim like SR, but also Toyota should offer a premium and tech package with leather, upgraded infotainment, and auto climate control outside of the limited. Auto climate control should be standard across all trim levels above the base model in my opinion, I’ve had vehicles from the mid-90s with it and it never broke.

Toyota doesn't care if you can really afford the car or not. They're in the business of selling cars not giving people financial advice.

And nah, I don't think you get it. I can appreciate any car. Built or bought doesn't change that. A true car guy appreciates both sides. I guess my Cobra must be badass then since I built it myself with my own hands.

Didn't you just say stock cars aren't cool? And you mean Yamaha built a screaming V10... must not be cool since Toyota bought it and didn't build it.

That’s an interesting article and thank you for the link. I wonder what it means that Kia is pursuing an overseas market upscale Land Cruiser rival when Toyota is strongly considering a less luxurious Land Cruiser? Perhaps multiple versions of the same vehicle? It wouldn’t be the first time for them to do that. Their new global/scalable frame architecture allows them that flexibility. Anyway, I’m glad that Kia is considering jumping into the upscale Ute game, just like I’m glad Ford is pushing the off road SUV segment with their new Bronco. The more competition the better.

Well, yeah. That is an interesting experience that is worth talking about. How you did this, what you did custom, how you overcame various challenges, why you picked this part or that. That's what makes the conversations interesting. If you were just rattling off stuff you read on the ford website then you would sound like a complete tool.

Well, since no one bought the LFA, so that should tell you that it just wasn't cool enough when it came out.

To be completely fair, though, they also created Lexus. And that worked out pretty well.

The Subaru Ascent has 19 cup holders. 19! So that is the perfect amount for all cars, including the Mini Cooper.

Edit: Here is the actual proof:

Lets get to the most important metric of performance: How many cupholders does each truck have?

    Tacoma: 13 (3 Center Console, 2 Rear, 8 Doors)
    Colorado: 6 (2 Center Console, 0 Rear, 4 Doors)
    Gladiator: 4 (2 Center Console, 2 Rear, 0 Doors)
    Ranger: 2 (2 Center Console, 0 Rear, 0 Doors)

This is after a cursory search of the photo galleries of each manufacturer, but I think the Taco is the clear overall winner.

Edit: This is not including the insanity that is most 3 row crossovers. lol

And yet Toyota is selling more 4Runners now than ever before, they have probably slowed down the introduction of the next Generation awhile because of the current success.
