I know this is probably a worn out topic but I am looking for a solid answer thinking of replacing Toyota’s ws transmission fluid with valvoline maxlife full synthetic any results and options from people who have switched

I switched to Valvoline Maxlife. It shifts well and runs smoothly with no clunks or thunks.
Old WS fluid looked decent with no burnt smell at only 22,000 miles with some towing, a large aftermarket cooler for the fluid, and the transmission thermostat pinned open.

    Old and new:

Only experience i had with valvoline maxlife atf was on my gen1 tundra when i did its first transmission fluid change...it really screwed up the shift points so bad i had to do a complete drain and flush refilling it with mobile 1 synthetic atf. Valvoline claimed it was compatible with the toyota dextron II fluid but it wasn't. The tacoma auto atf is much different so who knows?

I just recently replaced the transmission fluid myself. I used Toyota WS. I would stick with oem to be honest

I drained the transmission fluid, 2 quarts came out. Filled it back up with 2 quarts of new fluid, then turned it on and shifted through gears then turned it off. Did this 4 times for a total of 8 quartz. Truck runs buttery smooth. Remember to replace the 2 crush washers and o ring. It will leak if you dont replace them. That's what 80,000 miles looks like on the tranny fluid.

The fluid pump and quart pitcher can be found on Amazon along with the fluid.

Yeah I like using OEM fluid for trans. Usually won't use anything else. I changed mine around 50k and had very very tiny brass glitter in my oil.

You can buy an o ring kit at any autoparts store or online. Just make sure you replace it because i used the same o ring at first because it wasn't brittle or cracked so I thought it would be fine. I took it for a test drive down the street and tranny fluid was seeping out of that o ring from the fill plug, so I replaced it with a new one and problem solved.
