I got 2 bonus doe permits this year in a zone that has a lot of "shotgun only" restrictions. Thinking of picking up a 20G with rifled slug barrel.

    Any experience, suggestions, etc.?

Do the shotgun only restrictions specify multiple projectile? If you need to use buckshot, I HIGHLY recommend Federal Flight Control 12 gauge 3" Maximum out of a cylinder bore barrel. I've done extensive testing and it's by far the best.

If you are allowed to use slugs, I would recommend a savage 220 slug gun with a scope. Good to 200 yards with the right sabot ammo. I have an A-Bolt 12 gauge bolt action "shotgun" which I love, but they are discontinued and hard to find. If you are looking for a budget option get a rifled barrel for your 870.

Look into if they allow straight walled rifle cartridges as well. Md just approved them this year for zones that used to be shotgun only.

No H&R slug hunters on that list. I already own the nicest production slug gun ever made, but a friend of mine is hounding me for it and I prefer the simplicity of the single shot rifled barrel 20 gauge.

Browning A-Bolt Hunter 12 Gauge Shotgun for a production gun. There's a company called Tar-Hunt that makes a very nice semi-custom slug gun but boy oh boy are they spendy.
