I did the chalk test with my first set of Hankook AT tires. They lasted me 73K miles folks. I stayed on the air pressure and rotation and balance. Chalk test showed 30 for the front and 28 for the rear. No wonder the Factory PSI was listed as (29) PSI.

I think this whole TPMS is just a friggin' SCAM.
My son has a 18' Forester. He had new tires put on it about a month ago. Aside from the fact he spent $1200 for new tires ($200 for 'mounting and balancing' .. REALLY?) ... He had to pay another $200 to have the TPMS 'reset' for the new tires. They may have put new batteries in .. Those tiny ones you can buy at the local hardware store for $5.00 each.. But he wasn't sure... He was watching the guys out the window at the tire store and said it took them about 5 minutes to reprogram the computer so the light wouldn't come on, on the dash. $200.00...
I'm guessing this is like the 'Smog Check' scam, where they hook up their 'whoozit' to the computer port for a couple minutes and then charge you $100 to 'pass' ...

Damn that does sound like a scam. Mavis Tire and many others here are $19 each to mount/balance and no other costs, even if you bring in your own tires.

Discount Tire they charge you the cost of the tire and then $21 per tire for the mounting and balancing, if I remember correctly. If they have to replace the TPMS sensor, I think they charge about $60 per sensor for that, but a 2018 shouldn't need new sensors already. If they were just putting new tires on and keeping the same sensors, I don't think there should be any re-programming needed on them. At most they might re-sync them, but I believe that is just included in the cost (can't ever remember being charged for that).

Certainly sounds like the tire shop that did your sons screwed him over. Maybe you should get an estimate from DT for the same work that was done and bring it back to that place and ask WTH they charged him so much.

But anyway, I can see your emotions are high there, but using the word SCAM and your language like this is some grand conspiracy is maybe over-reacting a wee bit much.

When I put my new wheels on I bought new OEM ones for less than $200 and programmed them myself with the Carista OBD II device I have. I think I actually paid around $160 for the TPMS sensors. So, yeah, he was ripped off unless they actually gave him new sensors.

I think it ultimately depends on where you take ur truck... the tire shop that installed my new tire and wheels yesterday charged $20 per wheel for mounting and balancing and $30 for transferring and reprogramming my tpms from stock wheel to new wheels.
Initially when I called around asking for quotes they said $15 per tire but when I came in, they changed it to $20 per due to the weight and size of the tire... I was a bit pissed at that but whatever I wasn’t gonna make a big deal about $5 difference since I was already there. And now seeing these more expensive post I guess I shouldn’t complain about that $5 difference lol.
Anyways, on another note... I’m looking to seeing my old set, anybody know what I need here? Is it universal fit or specific fitment?

That thing is huge. I once ran over a 12” metal stake. It went through my tire and 3/4 of the stake went through the bed of my Ram.

Thanks! I'm in Georgia as well and contemplating going to that meetup in Stone Mountain this Saturday. If I end up going, and you're there as well you should definitely say hi and check em out in person
