Thanks for the bump guys. That sure was a scary moment. He's all good now and its just a joke and we laugh about it.

He's never told the class what's wrong and I've never asked.

The guy who made fun of you in light of the seriousness there-someone better take a closer look at him-he is a timebomb.

 

Just saw this thread, you were put there for a reason. Not very many people can say they have done what you did and not many your age to be sure. You will always look back to this and know you made a difference. Think how his family feels! What if you had froze like the "children" in your class. Awesome job.

 

Me too, just saw it today. As a nurse I can relate to the feeling and adrenaline rush. You did the right thing, they should consider you a hero. I know you might say, nah I am not a hero. Yes you are.

If I were the parents of that child I might show my appreciation by getting you a Super Charger for your truck.

 

Good for you. This is a good reminder to all of us to renew our Red Cross / American Heart Association CPR training.

The people making fun of you were just embarrassed about the fact that they were not man/woman enough to do what you did.

I grew up in a small town where a soccer ref died on our field and they say he was in good help and probably would have survived had someone done CPR. After that, IIRC, CPR training was a requirement for Sr Year.

I worked on the ski patrol for 6 years and worked on one guy for about an hour (had paddles on him within 15 minutes). He didn't make it. All I could think of while we worked on him was how mechanical and non emotional it was. That was all the way up to the point that I gave his personal belongings to his family. I wanted to say "I am very sorry but we tried the best we could." Fortunately, all I could get out was "I am very sorry" and then it hit me like a ton of bricks!

Hey, bud- saving someone's life screws up your day? Being a hero blows your birthday??? All I can say is- let's hear it for bad days. Damned good work. I know how it feels tho....When I graduate High School, some friends and I were at the lake drinking and partying. I'm told by several people that I pulled a drowning buddy out of 25 feet of water 50 yards from shore. To this day I don't remember a thing about it.

 

Compressions are more important than breaths, new guidelines reduce rescue breaths me thinks.

Also did i read correctly that they released the kid from the hospital, wasn't the same day I hope? How old is he? What's his echo report read ? lol

 

Honestly I don't know the answer to any of those questions. I was just in the right place at the right time. We don't really talk that much.

Well for what its worth, this thread should be kept up at the top for a while longer. I'll say this much, how would you like to be in a classroom next to the person who saved your life. I'd feel eternally grateful or on the opposite end of the spectrum where I'd be so embarrassed I wouldn't know what to say. Either way to this day, you did the right thing. Your adrenalin got the best of you. Nervous too I'm sure. It great to hear stories of this nature. Nice work.

Well being lazy I haven't really read the rest of the posts and missed this post the first time around. At any rate, awesome job pal. Definitely awesome that you knew what to look for and jumped into action. Many people would just stand by and be afraid to act. Fuck anyone who wanted to laugh at the time for "kissing a dude" you definitely took action that very well may have been the difference between life or death.

I'm sure I would have definitely been shook up in this situation as well. Good job. The world needs more people like you that aren't afraid to just react in a situation like this.

 

BTW, has your luck with the ladies significantly increased since the incident? ROFL
