Spacers are the cheapest way to fit bigger tires but you won’t gain any travel or handling. The hangers on Tacomas go the other direction (longer shackles =lower ride height). Add a leaf in the rear is the best way to get a little more height and payload on the truck.

Tire selection is pretty good for a lifted Tacoma. 285/70r17 is very common and gives an aggressive stance but will require aftermarket upper control arms and a cab mount chop. The 255/80 is roughly the same height but skinnier, doesn’t have the same rubbing issues as the 285’s. Best overland style suspension is either the 5100’s or a kit from Old Man Emu. The 255’s will also keep your gas mileage a little more live able on a daily driver.

Mine’s on Icons with a full leaf pack in the rear and 295/70r17.

Coming soon: Compact powered sub install Future mods planned: bigger tires (265/75/16) BILLSTIEN 5100 lift
Very interested in this thread. I been looking at a moderate lift up to 2" in the future for my truck. I just am not ready to jump in to it with both feet yet, however learning and coming up with a plan is good. I was looking on the headstrong site already.
I have looked at the Eibach and Bilstien kits. Not sure which to choose and the springs or the rear lift. Tire size also Im not sure of. I like the dark grey stock wheels I'd probably keep them. Could I mount 265/70/16 or 265/75/16 on them?

My SR5 is a daily driver so I don't want to hurt fuel economy too much either and I will be towing a 2000 pound pop-up camper with it. I don't want to impact towing capacity much either.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?

I've had Bilstein 6112s / 5160s for 30k miles and they are great on and off road. I have about 2.5 inches of lift. I also have OME heavy duty leaf packs in the rear.

IMO you could do either kits paired with an aal , 3 leaf aal or full leaf pack depending on if your caring constant load
    Great for the price.

I'm looking at the Bilstien kits with 2885 or 2887 coils, probably 2887. I'm not sure about the rear, single leaf is maybe ok? I'm not really going to be carrying much in the bed. Most it will see is lumber mulch and soil for projects and camping stuff like coolers clothes and some fire wood. I keep most of the gear for camping in the trailer.

You could try a single AAL and see how it ends up if you don’t like it you could always switch it out it’s so easy to do that job. I personally run a single aal I’m fine with it.

Dude, I read countless threads and spent hours upon hours researching lift kits until my eyeballs were bleeding. So many opinions out there. For a modest 2 inch lift, I went with Bilstein 5100s paired with OME 887 coils. Just a tad over 2 inches in the front. Rear is a single AAL with Bilstein 5160s and got 1.5 inches. I run a lot of weight though with the decked system full of stuff so the single AAL is nice and glass smooth for me paired with the 5160s. Now without weight, it’s going to be a tad stiffer out back. Overall, I love the route I went with. Looking back, I wouldn’t change anything. Next though is still continuing the upgrades with new UCAs and HD Dakars in the rear. Never ending money pit thanks to this blood sucking site

Yeah dude the wife is not thrilled about it, but she’s getting her RAV4 so I’m keeping her happy lol. Back on the lift, I’ve been looking hard at this set up that someone posted earlier (link below). I’ve been eyeing it all week. It has everything I need, but is the Dakar AAL 2.5 going to sit too high if the front is only coming up 2-2.5 up? Or is it going to be leveled out? I have 2 inch spacers in the front now so it’s leveled. But the goal is to squeeze 285 Falkens without rubbing. But then I would need to consider Maxtrac suspension 4 in spindle to really get clearance. Fml.

Last question - if the 2 inch spacers are added to the 5100s and ome 887 coils In the front, would it sit even higher? Sorry if that’s a dumb question lol

I believe the Bilstien 5100 kit with 887 coil and deaver aal is going on the list of things I want.
It's a really good deal honestly. I lifted my old Liberty CRD years ago so this is not new to me completely. There sure are many more options with the Tacoma.
This truck definitely can become a giant money pit it you let it.
I just got to decide on tires and plan how to budget for this paying cash for all it. I'm definitely not allowing myself to charge any of this and get in more debt.
