Got it. Right on - do a decent amount of those 4th gen guys do that swap? Any able to pull off a whole manual swap? I’d be interested to see if / what interchange there is on 4runners / FJ’s

I've only seen a handful that have done the swap. Seems like a majority of the 4th gen guys are like 3rd gen Taco owners and pay to have shit fixed. Or an even smaller number go with SAS. The FJ manual transfer case is AWD/full-time 4WD but can't be swapped as it's completely different spline count and the input shaft can't be changed. As for swapping out from auto trans to manual, I hear there are ways to do that (@Empty_Lord knows) but I'm not at that point yet with the 4Runner. I just want 4wd working again so I can actually wheel it properly.

Again, typo. The 6 speed manual FJs are full-time 4wd/AWD only. Only the automatic FJs had the manually shifted t-case with the J shift pattern.

You know that won't fry anything right? Totally fine to have the full time diff up there, less parts to fail actually. It's actually preferred

Yeah, I've had opinions go both ways with that. Some say that because the manual FJ tcase was only designed to work in part time 4wd, that running it with the full-time 4wd front axle spinning the chain in there will eventually fry the tcase. Others are of your opinion.

In the interest of simplicity and time, I'm not going to swap the front diff for the ADD one. I might even skip the twin stick conversion if I can make the J-shift pattern clear the console.
