If you want 400hp in your truck, go buy something with a 6.2L....:jerkoff:

I agree Toyota needs to step up but I guess they’re limited to wha they can release here in the United States.

I think the opposite. Toyota should step back and and provide an even more basic truck than the current offerings.

I wouldn't buy a truck with factory upgrades if I didn't have to. Like 33" tires, lockers, sliders, bumpers, etc like the American manufacturers seem to be thinking is a good idea.

We'll, it may seem awesome to the guy that has no idea what he is buying and can go straight to IG and show off his effortless purchase that will probably never leave the pavement.

I think what a lot of folks here are trying to say about Toyota vs the big three, is that Toyota provides the platform, and are at will to install exactly what we want, when we want or can afford:

    Tires (size, brand)
    Suspension lift (brand, quality)
    Lockers (brand, style, quality)
    Gear ratios (ratio, brand, quality)
    Bumpers (brand, style, materials)
    Lights (brand, style, size, quality)

    As for diesel.
No midsized Japanese truck will have a diesel option unless it is an American sourced diesel. There is NO WAY Toyota will drop a Cummins, Duramax, or any other US made diesel into the Tacoma just to have a diesel option for us in the states.

Toyota has a solid diesel they provide for outside the states, but it has something to do with a Chicken Tax or emissions, so we won't see them here in new trucks.

Toyota, If you are reading this, please give us the basic truck with body color, engine, transmission choice as our only options, in 2wd or 4wd, and at a legit base level price. We can then spend our money building it up from there. Kinda like 1985 all over again. Quit catering 100% to the Millennials and the Instagram credit card mechanics that only want to look the part. They are constantly driving up the cost, due to all the "fancy" stuff they want.

Gimme back the manual locking hubs, gummy back the front straight axle, gimme back the neutral in the transfer case, hell gimme back the transfer case floor shifter. I will gladly give up a few cup holders and USB ports damnit!!!

I would say that I wish the interior quality of the plastics was a little better. It drives me nuts seeing how easy the interior doors scratch and other surfaces. Buddies 2000 Chevy interior takes more abuse and doesn't show scratches..

Plasti-Dip em!!! You can change colors, too!

    No...

    Don't do that.

I agree the plastic scratches pretty easy. However, once you get the first scratch or two, it's time to move on and not treat it like an exotic princess :angrygirl:, and start treating it like the truck it wants to be.

Well my work around is to use black permanent marker, run it along the scratch and use your finger to "smudge" it. Scratch gone. I use it as a truck lol. It pulls my lawn care side business and its been around.

I would love to see the return of the single cab 4x4 V6, but with a locker.

The next gen Tacoma will likely be portly as America's waist lines

The demise of the single cab trucks has something to do with how the EPA calculates MPG. Think it had something to do with interior volume size or something else goofy.

And make sure to have Toyota include some vice grips to lock in your hubs when its zero degrees and wheels and hub are all iced up.
You can dream of simpler times but face it... it's much better today.
Just remember.... the older it gets the better it was. This goes for people as well as machines.

    Really?

This argument started about the same time GM went to IFS and auto hubs in 1989 on their full sized trucks.

Here is my response to you as I said the same back then.

"Lock your hubs before it gets that cold and don't unlock them until it's no longer that cold, duh."

They would also say something along the lines of "we don't have to get out and slip on the ice and fall on our ass to lock hubs."

My response was, "I don't either, as I was smart enough to lock them before I left the house."

I also reminded them that I could still lock my hubs after I got stuck, and my front end was then game on. Unlike the auto hubs needing the tire to rotate before the would engage.

2 wheel low range was as easy as leaving your hubs unlocked and put it 4lo. Try and do that with your new Taco (without modifying it to do so).

So, yeah I want my manual hubs back. :brianr:

Lol good luck man. I have nothing but bad memories of manual hubs in the 70's and 80's.

    How?

I would imagine that if manual hubs would have not been discontinued for the (in)convienence of auto hubs, and now electronically controlled 4wd, they could have advanced the design that would make factory hubs idiot proof and frost free.

Fuel efficiency for starters. Maintenance. After a few years the hubs needed rebuilt. And then there's the aspect of turning them in and out.

Fuel efficency is a non issue with our already super awesome fuel economic Tacomas.
Maintenance on manual hubs is easier than changing front disk pads, and less often.
Turning them in/out is only difficult if they haven't been maintained (ever) or you have the strength of an 8 year old.

It's called being lazy and entitled in every respect.

Geez, it's starting to sound like the 4runner forums. Bronco this Bronco that. . .

Toyota doesn't innovate. They build a solid platform and then encourage you to buy aftermarket for them to test out. It's easy and cheap prototyping.
