    It’s a plastic ring.
    I was well grounded.
I’m still walking and have all 11 fingers.

Didn't realize It was plastic...LOL, yeah those type of things can happen though. I had an explorer sport years ago that was so prone to fuel pump failures I cut an access hole in the floor in back to avoid dropping the tank again. Made it nearly 300k with 3 pump changes though...Ford 4.0l 6cyl was a great engine.

I’ve replaced a couple of fuel pumps in classic cars and used the hammer & straight screwdriver method with no problems. FWIW I always do it in a driveway and a dead blow hammer is not metallic; no sparks.

He's probably thinking of the metal ring and screwdriver interface. But ours is plastic.

Thanks for the info. Did you by chance have this casual conversation in the produce isle in front of the lemons?

    It’s plastic...
Screwdriver is just as hard as a chisel. Actually harder cause it’s chrome molly. Vs impact material (softer)

Screwdriver. They hurt more and cut deeper. Ask me how I know.

I do know one of my thumbs is a bit shorter than the other due to a wood chisel incident a few years ago. Then again, you can shave with most of my tools.

I've done occupational safety for a living in a high hazard industry, for two decades. Including large investigations of explosions and fires ;) .

Did you know that even "non-sparking" tools can generate a sparc, its just not hot enough to ignite a flammable mixture...Called a "cold sparc". Good weekend trivia.

Thanks for the safety lesson. I make my living working on high voltage, generally with traffic driving 20’ beneath me. In my world we take ‘calculated risks’. My time in my garage wrenching I treat much the same way :D

Yeah we have high and medium voltage generation and distribution where I work too. Our guys are pretty careful, but FR clothing is just an open casket vs closed when talking about forces involved in an arc blast or high voltage event.

The other day our Local power company was taking down some overhead lines So they could bury them and homeboy made a wrong move. It sounded like aliens were landing or the end of the world or something. Big bright flash of light and I saw the worker crumble into the bucket. Scary shit! They got him down and his shirt was smoldering with holes all over it. He was walking around so he must not have gotten hit too terribly bad.

Everyone loves a safety geek

We went through two corporate Safety Officers who quit when they realized we (the guys who actually are doing the work) don’t de-energize circuits (because for public safety reasons we can’t). I’m certified to work on circuits up 6,000 Volts. My rig is good for 10k.
