Looks like the motor is backwards and needs to be rotated around in the base 180.

    Wow
I’ve never seen something like this! Would you have to choose some kind of non toxic stain if food will be touching the wood surfaces?

    None....yet.
The fronts after 3 coats of poly. Went with a light stain (fruitwood seems to be my go-to lately), as my test piece for the darker stain just looked too dark to see the beautiful grain in this particular board. Nickel hardware to follow.

General finishes makes a food safe finish. You can also spend a buck for a bottle of mineral oil. There is also a butcher block oil. Those aren't stains of course but I'm not sure if there is a food safe stain to be honest.

Thank you. So do I. I have to make a few to sell but have to finish moving in first. 19 months in a trailer waiting to finally get in our new house.

I have heard of people using food coloring as a stain for food grade wood items. I haven’t personally tried but seems like you guys might want to try

That explains a bit, I installed a prefinished maple butcher block at a clients house and had a hell of a time finding a food grade clear poly to touch up the rounded edges. The guy at the yard that sold me the butcherblock told me that it was coated in food grade polyeurathane but didn't sell that specific finish. I wound up just using butcher block oil since they my clients were planning on beating on it anyway.
