Can someone please point me to the right place to compare tunes between the 2.0 87, the 2.0 83, and the previous versions?
I have a 2017 OR SB automatic running full stock tires and suspension and weight, etc. I'm really interested in the tune but lost track of it about a year ago and am thinking that now is the right time.

All 2.0 Tunes are Octane Learning. On the MT side, the differences seem mainly about tuning the throttle response to your liking. Basically:

    Base running 87 < Base running 91 / 92 / 93 / 94 << SFOB running 87 < SFOB running 91 / 92 / 93 / 94

If you're an AT, then the Perf and Tow tunes will be launched next as options. Base is Final.

@tonered I am a bit thick, so please bear with me. Octane Learning meaning I could get the 2.0 Final for manual and switch gas with no issues?
Where can I learn more about the Tow tune?

    Also, thank you.

Yessir. I was running 2.0 SFOB Prem with three tanks of 87. Then tested 92 doing nothing but filling it up. I got 2mpg+, which covers the cost, so I am on the 14th tank of that.

Tow is only for the ATs. From the post or two that mentioned it, it sounds like it will be the same as our SFOB tune.

2.0 Final for the MTs was launched in March:

    2.0 MT Tune notes:
    https://www.ovtuned.com/blogs/news/...0-manual-transmission-2020-model-year-support

FM needs updated for the 2.0 Tunes:
    https://www.ovtuned.com/blogs/news/flash-manager-1-3-0-released-with-new-logger

Also note that a TSB for 04B14 dropped for 2016 and 2017 MTs. It feels very different than 04B13, even tuned. Check out the ECU Update thread.

Shit howdy I didn't even know that (I checked out of the threads because life) - I have been 100% 91-92 Octane since 2.0 (and before).

Well OK will stay that way!!:D:p:bananadance:

@tonered One more, if you're game. Someone in a video mentioned they liked a 1.5 or 1.05 with gear lock or shift lock or something?
What is that and is it something I'd need to care about if I do the 2.0 final tune?

GearLock is for ATs. A better S-mode.

Hey guys, anyone ever go to download your tune from the Toyota Flash Manager [Config 1.3.3] and get "Error downloading file C:/Users/name/Toyota Flash Manager/tunes/2.0/sid_04B04_2.0_Prem_BaseOL.p5f" ? This is driving me nuts! lol

I guess I’ll cast my initial review for OVTune. Downloaded the 04B81 87/33/THX tune. Running 265/75/16 10 ply K02’s, ARB bumper on front and 250-300 lbs in the bed. The truck only had 2500 miles but I elected to go ahead and do the OVTune hoping to fix the jumpy shift points and maybe get a little power.
I highly recommend it, drives and feels entirely different. I doubt I got much if any power, but cycling through the gears feels so much smoother and predictable. Mileage went up a considerable amount, I was getting 14-15 on the highway, any cross or head wind and I was into 13’s and staying in 5th gear. It likes 6th a whole lot more now. Drove around 1000 miles this weekend staying in the 70-85 range and averaged 16.5 with cross and head winds. I’m planning on sticking to the 87 tune as I can’t justify spending 30 plus cents extra a gallon for premium. Overall, I gave it 4 stars, I’m sure premium would get 5. Great product, I had quick turnaround on registration and no complaints once I figured out the process it took no time to flash and be on my way.

so there is no $79 upgrade kit, I saw on another post about buying a dongle trade in kit, and I see that mentioned on the website but not clickable.

Can you explain what's going on with all this? I got the $700 dongle kit with the understanding that all future updates and tunes would be available at no extra cost. AND now I'm seeing tune kits for less than half that price but I have to buy a dongle trade in kit? Will I be getting the full vf tuner PRO or the $199 flash only version...again I already paid $700 for a flash only version that now sells for half that price *a little irritated*

All updates and tunes are available at no extra cost. There's still at least one more version that has a performance and/or gearlock mode. It will hopefully be coming out in the next few weeks, but there is no specific release date. That's what you purchased with the flash kit. Several pre-made tunes created by an expert with much more knowledge about our Tacoma's ECUs than anyone else. Those tunes are almost at their final form, and no new tunes will coming out that were made by the expert.

VFTuner is a completely different product that allows people to make their own custom tunes instead of purchasing pre-made ones like with OVTune. That being said, you can also purchase the pre-made tunes by way of the VFTuner tune pack. If you were buying everything new, then the VFTuner software, Tacoma tune pack, and tactrix cable bundle into a similar price to what you paid for OVTune.

Luckily, OVTune has offered to let the original flash kit owners (which it sounds like you have) upgrade to the new VFTuner product for only $79. We weren't left and forgotten with your money wasted. What you bought with OVTune were several pre-made tunes. Those tunes are still available for you to download and enjoy at any time.

If you would like to buy a completely new, different product (VFTuner) then you can do so for $79 here if you have already purchased the original OVTune flash kit - https://www.ovtuned.com/products/vforest-tuner-for-tacoma-flash-kit-owners?variant=31765448884311.

    Quick question:

Relative has purchased the $700 kit and flashed their truck. He believes he can flash my truck as well with the same 2.0 base tune since he didn't need to use any of his credits when he did his Tacoma.

Is this possible? Do I need to purchase anything else? All this transition to VFtuner and making your own tunes is EXTREMELY confusing. I don't want anything fancy. All I'm looking for is to have my truck flashed with the 2.0 version and be done with it.

    Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that as long as the two of you have identical ECM versions, yes he can flash your truck as well.

Sooo... for about 3 months I have been running Ovtune 2.0 Premium Stock on my 2017 Taco double cab long box. This tune is a vast improvement over stock! What also helped ALOT was getting Toyota to update my ECU to the 04B04 under the TSB. With the 2.0 and TSB combination shift points were right where I would expect them to be, gears were held going up a grade, gas pedal was more responsive, engine idled more smoothly, and the powertrain was much more predictable.
    Last night...
I got an idea in my head. I thought hey I paid $1000 for a laptop, vFtuner, and 3.5L tune pack. Why not try other tunes. So I loaded Ovtune 1.05.1 91Octane Performance tune into my ECU last night. All values were reset and the truck idled for 10min after it was all said and done. All I can say is WOW!!! The skinny pedal is much more responsive, the truck wants to get to 6th gear and it actually stays in 6th gear on the highway. I can feel more torque/pull even when I'm not mashing the gas pedal. At slow speeds the torque has improved. Cruising on the highway I can be in 6th gear and push the gas and it stays in 6th and accelerates!! The truck gets up to speed much more quickly and gas was 17.9 MPG around town!! That has never happened before! Shifting seems a bit less refined then 2.0 but I would gladly make that trade for the extra power I feel on the butt dyno. Keep in mind I only have about 70 miles driven with this flash so the ECU is still figuring things out and I am confident the shifts will smooth out over time. One thing I do not care for is the TC seems to be locking and unlocking way more then 2.0 maybe that will settle down too as the ECU learns.
I will leave this post on a positive note. I am getting so much more enjoyment out of my truck then I have ever had before. It really is a blast to drive with this tune and I am eagerly awaiting 2.0 Performance! The Smiles Per Miles Meter went way up!! Although I have only had this specific tune for a day I am so impressed by it I felt the need to share on this forum. Thanks for stopping by.
