Hey all- any suggestions for a shop (or fellow member) that could swap springs on to new 5100's? Not sure I feel comfortable with the no spring compressor method, and the AutoZone rental tools seems a little sketchy. Looking for somewhere open on the weekend (was going to check out duggy garage but looks like they are closed on the weekend). Any help appreciated. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask... New to TW (and Tacoma's)

Which side of town do you stay at? You could hold a mod meet. Supply food and beer. There are people willing to knock it out.

I might be able to use my buddys shop since they are closed on weekends.

beers+grill+wrenching, I like that idea (I'm sure I'll need help again). I'm just inside the north 610 loop, height-ish area. My lack of patience got the best of me this time... tore it apart Sunday, dropped off the struts this morning to have the springs swapped at a local shop, hoping to get them back in the truck tonight. So far the process has gone pretty smoothly... hopefully that continues to be the story. It is nice working on a newer rust free vehicle, used to every other bolt being seized up. Fingers crossed I'm not back here tomorrow asking for help on the same project...

You should be good if you've already gotten them out. Putting them back in may take some additional pry bar effort depending on which clip you're using.

Wife wants to go to Surfside tomorrow. I'm assuming its stupid busy on the weekends. What say the peanut gallery? Also, any specific place to head to or just drive along and find a spot?

Will probably be stupid busy, as it looks like a nice day. Where depends on what you want. Beaches in Surfside will charge a fee to get access, but they do clean and maintain those beaches. If you want the "real" beach, head up the Bluewater Hiway towards Galveston and hit up one of the access points on the way. No fee, and usually less people.

    ...just one nuts opinion...

So these "real" beaches along Bluewater Highway...still allowed to drive onto the beach?

Yes sir. ‘Real’ just referred to the fact that they aren’t cleaned or dragged or sanded. Depending on time on year, dead fish, seaweed, etc. may be found. But, if you don’t like one spot, drive down the beach.

Yup once you go over the big bridge. You'll see surfside. Cool view on top of the bridge.

When? And I thought you didn’t have a functional, licensed scooter.

I hadn't been on mine for a couple months, so fired it up Friday night, since it was so nice. Started it and let it run a few minutes to make sure it would start, shut it down and noticed it was dripping gas out of one of the carbs. Couldn't see if it was a gas line or just out of one of the float bowls, so rode it around for a few miles to see if it was just a dry o-ring or not. It kept leaking, so parked it for the night.

Sat morning fired it up and it wasn't leaking anymore  Short ride and it was fine. Ended up taking it for a longer ride around some backroads Sat evening, perfect temp. Dry o-rings FTW!

Yup, carbs, old tech. And not just one or two, but four! One of my biggest bitches on this bike. Jet clogging on gas with alcohol is also a big problem.
