    Big Pine, CA. Bishop area and Mammoth Mountain draw tourists year round with those tourist dollars driving the local economy.

    EDIT: I forgot to mention that Death Valley is 30 minutes up the road, and Yosemite is about 1.5 hours away. A few people come out each year to visit those places.

    Dude, I went for a drive on Labor Day weekend up around Mammoth Lakes area and found people pulled over on the side of the road, two tires still on the road in dirt turn-outs camping. Tent set up, kitchen deployed, chairs all set out. I was like WTF???
    Absolutely nuts.
