Yea these drum brakes are terrible. They last forever, never make noise, never freeze up in the winter. I have to clean and adjust them once every 50,000 miles. Worst design ever.

When is toyota going to get their shit together and start copying the latest Ford Ranger?

True. My 2015 had 102K on the original brakes when I traded it in.

This is just a never-ending game of 3rd gen bingo, where Toyota is the only winner and we're still trying to fill the board before seeing which lucky TWer picked the truck with every known issue. What is their prize? An out of warranty trip to the dealer where the vending machines aren't working, you can't hear the TV, the a/c is on when it's already too cold and when you finally get your truck back after 4hrs of not having your phone and watching others leave, the only thing that's been done is improperly aired tires and all of your radio stations have been reset

Maybe you should start a support group for others with your same traumatic experiences.

The owners manual says to change the motor oil every 10k miles and use 0w20...

What viscosity oil should I use and how often should I change it?

20W50, every 3K. Those engineers just want to sell more engines.

Premium, with octane booster. I run this, and get 36 mpg, plus it adds 72 horsepower

Your post count is way too high to make this very incorrect statement.

So that kids these days, when the self-adjusters finally wear and don't work so well anymore... Will learn the joys of using a brake-spoon ... And always guessing wrong the first time, then having to adjust the brakes the other way ... And finally getting that slight drag and knowing you got the brakes juuuuuuuust right.
It's a 'self-satisfaction' thing, knowing 'Hey .. I can still do some things myself with a 'computer on wheels', right?

Not needed. Just ask questions here.:)

I have mine downloaded to my phone. They're on Toyota's website. It's nice to be able to look things up when you're not with the truck.
