That's a steal of a price. I bought mine used at $110 just a few months ago

IMHO, best bang for your buck of any Tacoma mod.

Is this similar to a Pedal commander and the pedal box?

The Shift Sense Pro runs S mode shifting for you based on different shift points and curves (selectable in v2) than the stock D mode uses. You install it in-line with the shift lever (so it can mimic the lever's commands), and also connect it to the ODB II port so it can gather the data it needs for deciding when to command a shift. The big selling points for 3rd generations: 1) It can better match the shift points to the engine's power curve and delay upshifts (esp. useful for folks who live in hills/mountains and who are tired of the truck shifting up too soon only to drop right back down and up and down and... to continue a climb), and 2) It's less expensive and requires less debugging or break-in time than an OVTune install or re-gearing.

The Pedal Commander in contrast connects via ODB II to modify/command the ECU (at a small added risk of confusing it by triggering an ECU software bug :smash: ) for adjusting throttle response timing and other parameters/curves. It has various selectable "tune" modes depending on the model (sport+, towing, &c) to give you enhanced responsiveness, tow stability, or other desired features. It's easier to remove than reflashing out of OVtune back to stock, should you need dealer service with fewer arguments.
