Idaho BS thread in the PNW

Hello All

My truck has been making this noise for probably 2-3 years now on and off and we can't figure out what it is. It only seems to happen after it's gotten cold out (doesn't happen in the summer months at all)

It happens more so when coasting/off the gas vs when accelerating, typically around 30-40mph. It sounds like it's coming from the rear, but I have no idea.

Almost sounds like your heater blower fan. Does its change sound with switching 4x4 on and off?

 

Check usual culprits, ujoints, carrier bearing, brakes. Sounds rotational

 

sounds like rubber on rubber... hum?

 

Seized up carrier bearing would be my first guess

 

That's what I'm thinking but there would be some clunking if then carrier bearing went out and why only when its cold?. @Tacoma~Gal crawl under your truck and grab the driveshaft and see if there is any play/slop in the carrier bearing.

loving the temps and weather here! We’ve driven alllll over the place in a day and a half. Headed to Spokane and then back to check out Harrison later today.

met with our RE agent yesterday and checking out more options and areas. We’re around until Monday afternoon so if you’re in the area, say hey. We usually find ourselves having a drink on an outdoor patio at a restaurant or park (we bought a bottle as our first so after leaving the airport )

I'm looking at/into Ford Edge's currently. I've researched everything from Honda CR-V's, Tucson's & Sante Fe's as well.
I drove a Santa Fe and was less than impressed with the HP. I haven't drove an Edge yet but I'm hoping that the turbo'd 4cyl has a little more git up.

 

My wants & budget make for a pretty slim pickings line up.

I didn't even think about looking into those. My mom has a 2011 Rav and it is not my favorite. But I can see where the hybrid could have more spunk.

 

Sometimes you make a lot of sense... But only sometimes.

 

A new RAV4 hybrid will be my next big purchase in the coming years. No brainer.

 

Hi all, moved here about a year and a half ago from Missouri, figured I'd make a post in here. My brother and I went elk hunting for the first time this past week and had a great time, he managed to scare off what sounded like a big bull but still can't complain.

Got about 7 inches of snow an Saturday night but sadly had to come back into reality on Sunday. The new bfg ats did great on the trip down the mountain.
