I hate taking my truck in for inspection

Uhh, how else do you check the most important part of a safety inspection (brakes) without pulling the wheels?

 

Does it stop when it is pulled into the bay?

It's a basic safety inspection, not a dissect your vehicle and potentially fuck it up.

 

Pulling your wheels to inspect your brake components with a flash light is not dissecting your vehicle...

What do you want for inspection? 'it has 4 tires and an engine. ok heres your sticker!' Come on man.

It can be metal on metal and still stop.

The people that bitch the most about inspections are the ones that have the most to hide.

 

Taking parts off a vehicle goes beyond what the government should do. As you can see with the OP's post, they fucked it up.

This is so arrogant. Obviously, you have a problem with the government because that's all you are bringing up. The government isn't having state INSPECT your vehicles just to make it annoying for you. It's not like the state is having your diffs pulled and inspected. It is simply to check the brake components of your vehicle so you don't go down the road and kill an innocent person(s) because of your negligence.

According to you, if the frame is rotted through it's totally okay because it pulled into the shop and stopped when the brakes were applied! Boy am I glad you aren't an inspector.

 

When people vote for big government they shouldn't be surprised when they get it. Only inspection we have is when registering a new or used vehicle for the first time and then all they do is make sure the vin# matches the paperwork.

 

Yeah, I don't need or expect the government, at any level, to hold my hands. Maybe you do? I certainly don't expect the government to take parts off my vehicle.

I unfortunately moved back to a state where I have to pay the annual inspection tax. I still haven't done it yet as I'm rocking my old plates. Mine hasn't been inspected since I rolled off the lot in 2007.

I always do this too. I also spray a little WD-40 into the lug nuts to keep them from rusting under the stainless steel skin. Keeps your nuts from swelling.

 

Even better, put a small dab of anti-seize inside the nut on the threads. Dont get it on the face that torques against the wheel.

Great for rust belt cars or cars that are getting the wheels removed often

 

There are plenty of garages in my corner of the state that sell stickers.
I can't remember the last time I had someone pull the wheels.
I think it's a good idea for people who are not mechanically inclined to have someone check their vehicle. Nobody wants to be on the road with someone who is about ready to blow a tie rod end. Not everyone is self sufficient and those are the people that end up killing someone.

 

I see a helluva lot more validity in inspecting vehicles than I do testing their emissions....

Neither is required here in Iowa and, being in the rust belt, there is some real sketchy shit going down the roads

Once in a while in the dead of winter you'll see an old Dodge truck on the shoulder broken in half, maybe a few with sheared lugs and a missing wheel, often upper and lower ball joints broke clean off, etc

But I can't say I once remember a big time accident because of one - the old timer's that drive these machines move at a pace most of us can work around

Once upon a time IA did have state inspections. It was dropped.

Personally, I think the inspections are a good idea. The purpose is to keep unsafe vehicles off the road. Generally, the IA inspection checked tire wear (no baldies), brakes, lights, exhaust and not much else.

Today, there are so many rattle traps on the road.......

 

As a person who’s lived in both types of states. It’s a great idea & it works mostly but fuck that license plate light bulb shit. I’m just over it.

 

I really don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s very minor damage on the back of the wheel. Can’t see it. Move along
