Good morning everyone. I am new to TW but have looked at this forum for many years. I am currently driving a gen 3 taco with some upgrades. I recently had a monsoon type rain come through here where I live and noticed significant amount of moisture in my rear seat after leaving work the other day. Note this has never happened before. I have only a little over 18 thousand miles on a 2017 taco but the warranty period has expired. I was wondering if anyone has any advice about how to proceed dealing with Toyota corporate. I did go to the dealer and they stated it will cost me $645 to fix seal on such a low mileage truck. I called corporate and they are having a higher up call me in the next 24 hours. I am more that a little miffed that such a low mileage truck is having this problem. Any advice would be welcome from TW world.

Yup, press the issue as much as you can. The same thing happened to me just as I got out of my factory warranty period, they said it would be roughly $540 to fix it. I brought the TSB in and pressed that they knew about this issue and they ended up taking care of it no charge. Just don't let them think they can pressure you into paying for it.

Just got this one - it's a work in progress.....
This is a known issue with Toyota. I had a 2016 with the issue and it could never get corrected. Toyota replaced the light and headliner twice and it was still leaking the day I traded it in. That truck had every issue a 3rd gen is known for. But the point is, Toyota knows it’s an issue and should fix it.

i have a 2017 trd offroad with same issue at around 35000 miles, way passed warranty. the first tech i dealt with tried to charge me for the fix, then suggested i go to a 3rd party shop to save money to get it fixed. I decided to have the dealer fix it, but ended up talking with a supervisor and kind of getting upset and pushed the issue. I advised him of the tsb and multiple reports of the issue to him. they fixed it free of charge.

It's out of warranty. The OP had 3 full years to find and correct any problems within that period.

Why would anyone expect any free warranty repair outside of the warranty period?

Even the TSB only covers the repair for free during the warranty period.

if its out of warranty than nothing gets repaired for free by the dealer, pretty common knowledge

    This /\ /\.
And I'd play the safety card...
Since they obviously knew about the issue and didn't have a recall, I'd request that they send you a letter stating that the issue is not a safety concern.
Tell them if they don't help with repairing the known issue, you plan to leave it as is, and you hope that hidden mold doesn't affect your family's health.
And, that with their statement acknowledging it wasn't a safety concern at the time the TSB was issued, you're willing to take that chance on their word.
Worked for me to get the steering linkage fixed on a 2006 Rav4... (they won't send the letter).

Thats what i figured too when i took it in. But if you push the issue and be firm, theres a good chance (80 to 90 percent) they will fix it for free. And besides, it never hurts to try...

That's as good an argument as a service advisor's gonna hear OP, I'd use that verbatim and enjoy your free repair
