Good morning. My name is Scott, I live in Mesa, AZ and currently own a 80 series Land Cruiser but looking to replace it with a 3rd Gen Tacoma.

I am here to get ideas on how to set it up as my own, maintenance issues and other issues.

Also learn about different suspension set ups, wheel tire set ups, etc.

If anyone is interested the 80 is for sale for the right price.

Welcome. Other than the first production runs on the 2016s the 3rd gen is pretty problem free. The 2016s had some initial quality concerns such as ubolts out of torque specs, leaky 3rd brake light, stuck knobs, low trans fluid but those have all been worked out.

    Is you 80 triple locked?

So the stories I have read about transmission issues were 1st-year issues? Seems that all new model changes something is always an issue.

Yup. Toyota released a new tune and I haven’t seen any posts about low trans fluid since the 2016s. Granted a lot of people on this forum still don’t like the tuning of the trans but most are fine with it.

Good to know thank you very much for the information. Anything else I should be concerned about? I follow a few Tacoma owners on IG but they never complain about the Tacoma on Instagram. So it is hard to find out about things like the transmission issues in the early Tacoma.

How is acceleration with basic modifications, bumpers front/rear? Ive seen some put new gears in the Tacoma but they have a ton of new weight to the Tacoma.

Bigger tires and lots of steel typically needs a regear but if you are doing all that anyway its because your wheeling and should be regearing.

My only complaint is it never breaks and always gets be home soI have no excuse to not go to work on Monday..

I was planning on regearing anyways. But will do the research to figure out what is best for my setup.

It'll be the same as the LC. Reliable as hell with it's own quirks and great aftermarket support. I don't think you can go wrong.
Awesome 80 by the way

Thank you. The sale of the 80 will fund my Tacoma build.

But to fit 34s body mount chops would have to be done along with?

Yup. Or a body mount relocate.

There are a few kids now that are pricey that can do some stuff with moving the steering rack and what not. Marlin had one coming out.
